There is a very stupid term paper to be written about the (presumedly) unintentional parallels between “Paradise” and “Lost”
The level of misogyny in the show is… striking. I have to keep reminding myself that it was progressive at the time to show women serving in a quasi-military organization at all.
To be fair to the original, it was chronically under-appreciated by the network (it was notoriously cancelled just before Nielsen started rating shows by demographics). So it was never funded appropriately. Doesn’t excuse Shatner’s scenery-devouring, though.
I’ve been watching the old 1966 Star Treks, most of which I’ve never seen or completely forgotten. They seem to fall into three categories: good science-fiction premises badly executed, goofy premises executed with a self-aware wink, and City on the Edge of Forever.
