RapidRide is not a โcureโ to Speed and Reliability problems. Our RapidRides are still late and we need speed and reliability improvements systemwide.

New bus island and widened sidewalk is coming along!!
Regular occurrence for L8 riders. Bus lanes now!
The L8 is early for once!
One day weโll fix this intersection.
Today is not that day
Looks like progress is being made on the sidewalk although it is still annoying that the bus stop was closed so long before breaking ground on the new island
UPDATE. The @fixthel8.bsky.social crew wrote to Metro explaining this needs a quick fix and an hour later we got word they are updating the IRL and online info to show the correct info. The EB Denny & Steward stop is temporary relocated to east of Stewart through March 1.

The red paint goes on the road not on the bus!
We had a great time tonight talking to @seattledot.bsky.social about Bus Lanes on Denny Way!
The Mayorโs order mandates a plan by April 17. Weโre excited that SDOT is thinking about more than Denny and will keep iterating on solutions in the coming years
New sidewalk coming for Denny Way!
Should be a lot wider and more comfortable to walk on! Hopefully they can build it soon and reopen it.
We're going to get out the red paint on Denny Way. #thisisyourcity
We hope the stop will only be without a shelter for a short time. But unfortunately the timeline is weather dependent and the development has a history of very long delays.
Also, as the plaza is reconstructed, the stop will need to be moved, likely across Stewart at the foot of the bridge over I-5.
A schematic of a new plaza including decorative stone paving, additional pedestrian seating including underlit benches, an enhanced bus shelter with wayfinding signage, and interpretive pavings
But thereโs a silver lining. It means construction should begin soon on a new plaza and what appears to be a pretty awesome shelter.
We havenโt tracked down any final design plans but this is what was presented in the developmentโs design review meeting.
www.seattle.gov/dpd/AppDocs/...
Last month, instead of continuing the wait for the nearby development, Metro installed a temporary โcounterweight shelterโ thatโs weighed down instead of physically bolted to the concrete.
Unfortunately, the development just requested the shelterโs removal, which is why itโs gone.
Unfortunately the concrete footing was ruined making a replacement more complex than just screwing it in.
Plus, a nearby development was to fund a better shelter anyways and the Denny paving project made coordinating complex.
Metro delayed a new shelter to avoid install/remove/reinstall situation
In December 2023, a driver destroyed this entire plaza including the bus shelter, palm tree, trash can, and seating leaving this stop pretty hostile for pedestrians and transit riders

The bus shelter at Denny and Stewart is missingโฆagain! After it was destroyed by a driver in Dec โ23, Metro finally replaced it in Dec โ25 but just removed it.
Luckily, itโs for good reason!
ICYMI: โBuses are the backbone of Seattleโs transportation system. When transit works, Seattle works. When buses are reliable, people get to work on time, kids get to school, seniors get to appointments, families get to spend time together. The 8 is a critical crosstown connection and...

L8 -> Gr8!
Transit riders have been forced to sit through traffic on Seattleโs slowest and least reliable bus for decades. Finally we have a mayor willing to prioritize mobility and the climate to improve our transit system and give Seattleites the freedom of mobility they deserve. Roll out the red carpet!

We need the bus lanes now!

Mayor Wilson addresses crowd about executive orders
Excited to announce 2 executive orders at my transition team meeting. My Shelter and Housing Accelerator order will speed efforts to rapidly bring people inside. And my Transit Accelerator order will finally implement a bus lane on Denny. More details on my blog at wilson.seattle.gov #thisisyourcity
Huge congratulations to the amazing community volunteers and advocates @sngreenways.bsky.social and @fixthel8.bsky.social who paved the way for this change. I'm so proud of you. And thank you Mayor Wilson! #Seattle
๐ 2026 is The Year of Speeding Up the Bus
We are beyond honored to have joined Mayor Wilson this morning to announce an executive order for bus lanes on Denny Way. We can't wait to finally Fix the L8 and see what she has in store for the next 4 years of Seattle's transit
