Itβs an absolute shame that DC fired Gretchen Felker- Martin for exercising free speech and then @bsky.app suspended her account. Every writer here should be decrying this because we have to stand up for each other! This is ridiculous.

when people respond to my posts about the world being like "and this surprises you?" it's like, yes, it does. everything surprises me... I'm sort of like a foal in the body a burly man...
"don't make the content they'll play at your Nuremberg trial" is the advice I would give
Also, if you are feeling a certain type of way about this: participate in the Trans Rights Readathon!
Nearly all the queer books I request from my library get rejected. Things are changing, and I'm scared of the future of publishing in a way I never have been before.
This thought continues to plague me as I watch my local library ban pride flags:

Wolves have value in and of themselves, but in a world where that intrinsic value might not be enough to sway public opinion, it's important to highlight the ecological and economic impacts of wolves. And boy, can wolves shape an economy for the better!

If you're feeling hopeless and miserable, I cannot possibly overstate how much it helps to just pick one thing you can do that helps people, and do it.
You only need to do one person's worth of work. That's all any of us can do.
You'll be doing what you can, and there is so much relief in that.

OF THE EMPIRE We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

My advice for emerging artists and pros alike: itβs time for in person events.
The industry and community is scattered and algorithms are currently siloing us off.
Go to cons, festivals, screenings + launches, and other art events.
While social media is still shifting, invest in face to face.
I'm finally not sick, and I want to edit so so bad. Time to add some words (will we surpass 70,000?)
