@maidandlion
"The Fair Unknown" a short Arthurian Visual novel about queer generation gaps, toxic relationships, self-destruction, and the many faults of being a sword. it’s here. It's worth it. https://maidandlion.itch.io/the-fair-unknown
These are the two that have lived in my bag for like a month.
In my defense
Wait, no, Rilke.
Cavafy?!
It's like a movie that dropped into our reality full formed from an alternate universe where we all collectively decided that bouncers were *extremely cool*
This energy still wells up in my heart everytime I kiss somebody new
AWWWW YEEEAH (you have amazing taste)
It actually took me like three viewings before I realized that Statham is trying to do an American accent because he wasn't *Jason Statham* yet, you know?
I heard that Jet Li didn't speak English when he made it and learned his lines phonetically. Which is weird because if I was just guessing which actor couldn't understand what they were saying based on line delivery, I'd have gone with Jason Statham.
But I actually think it's just so good it's good. It's a sci-fi action movie that's also a showcase for two specifically weird nitche kung fu styles. What a weird thing to exist. It almost doesn't matter that the actors give some of the weirdest line readings I've ever heard.
So, I used to think the One was so bad it was good. Just a fascinating movie totally unwilling to interact with the million ideas it's premise promotes?
AWWWWW YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAH
One of the challenging dynamics about social media is that it is categorically stupid to talk openly about meaningful anti-government organising, but then that leaves a vast space for the doomers to fill up with "why isn't anyone doing anything!?"
my favorite thing about poetry is that it's fundamentally perverse. words are horrible creatures. no one should ever interact with language without PPE. wash your hands. wash them again. you still smell like literary devices. they've gotten into your skin. it's worth it. god help us, it's worth it.
No. This is somewhere to be. This is all you have, but it's still something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky, the world. You're still alive.
At balancing artsy introspection with people fighting each other.
In all honesty, I feel a lot less bad about "The Grandmaster" being my guilty-pleasure Wong Kar Wai film now, because Ashes of Time is also an attempt at a kung fu movie and well.. it makes you appreciate that The Grandmaster is pretty much just better at it?
Ashes of Time Redux is an amazing movie about the color yellow. Truly a gift to the lover of Yellows, Oranges. And sometimes blues. 10/10 Yellows. i think maybe there were also some actors.
Sadly, I'm not a game dev anymore, and I don't look like anyone.
Chicago will welcome you! Our lake will take all your woes within itself and carry them off to Michigan or something.
On the shoulders of absolute giants, and all I have to show for it is this little visual novel (which you should play! It's good!)
...also I'd be remiss if I didn't thank @vivianblaxell.bsky.social for taking a question from me in Chicago about whether she resented being pigeonholed as a trans writer, and she said absolutely, but since there's no way out of that, you might as well keep writing. Truly inspiring.
Look, you should all just read "A/S/L" it's one of the best bits of queer literary fiction ever written.
I'm...also trying to think of how to summarize a brilliant conversation that I had with @jeannethornton.bsky.social about the idea that you can tell all kinds of stories about transness, about the idea that things in our lives can provide useful angles on universal human concerns...
It was actually reading @mayadeane.bsky.social 's "Wrath Goddess Sing" that jogged me out of that particular rut. A book so unapologetically trans that it made me wonder "wait, when did I become *apologetically* trans?"
Because I mean, I've been trans for a *while now* and after a certain point you kind of start to wonder: do I have anything left to say on the topic? Is trans shit all people want to hear about from me? *Am I just covering up for not having any other ideas?*
I've actually been weirdly evasive about this in promoting it, and maybe it was the wrong choice! It was something I thought about like, *a lot* when I was writing the story.
The story is. In fact, a trans thing.
They may still be parasitic predators, but at least there's reason to think they know how to take a long term view which...
...sadly is better than what we've got.
a pink orange and red sunset can be seen through bare trees standing on spotty snow with a hazy foggy hanging in the air
hey. it's creepy and beautiful out.
