This administration constantly makes clear how little regard it has for vulnerable communities, especially those whom there has been a bipartisan desire to help.
As always, cruelty is the point.

Object permanence remains a tricky concept for them.
Do I think Trump's policies will be as disastrous as Mao's GLF and CR?
Boy I hope not.
Do I think Trump conducts himself like Mao, as well as some other historical dictators?
Yes.
Do I think international bodies should take those similarities into account when bestowing a peace prize?
Yes.
Trump and Mao share many similarities.
Both largely dismissed as too crass by the upper class but who rose to the absolute peak of power.
Both very callous to human suffering and unwilling to accept criticism of their disastrous policies.
Very different systems and periods of history, though.
Certainly not my intention.
Been able to speak with many people about it who lived through it.
It was a terribly violent and chaotic time when even family members turned against one another.
Great Leap Forward and the resulting Great Famine seem to have been higher total death toll situations.
Most of Mao's death toll was due to gross policy negligence.
In addition to maximizing Executive power, Trump has built a "Red Guard"-style personality cult that can and will engage in violence on his behalf.
He's also a protectionist who increasingly meddles in business for his own benefit.
Mao didn't.
Trump is clearly more along that trajectory as opposed to Kissinger or Arafat.

"REAL MEN save money by growing their own vegetables"
Always was one of the more absurd lawsuits.
Trump: "The plan is to act like I wanted to attack Iran all along, bomb the shit out of them, then declare a ceasefire. I'm sure Iran won't just use that as an opportunity to launch a barrage against a now temporarily hesitant Israel. That way I still get my Nobel Peace Prize!"
"Foreign policy" just was not a big deal to these people.
Now it is a really, really, really, enormously too big a deal to be left up the whims of any single individual.
Checks and balances for all important matters.
We've still made a mess of things with the little bit of the universe we're stuck on.
No reason to get overly Zen and forget that there are big problems that need collective action to fix.
Everyone just dig into which ever of the many critical problems suits your fancy.
according to conservatives on the court, the constitution does not protect your right to your own body but does enable the government to ship you off to a foreign gulag without any hope of return

That hardly anyone is even talking about the Robot Rules makes me sad.
Make Airplanes Crash Again!
Looking good, sir.
Everyone on the left that is still talking about moral victories or only wanting to win "the right way" is part of the problem.

A little too late to make it into Gladiator 2, but there's always Gladiator 3, starring Chalamet as Lucius's son Maxius.
Fine, I'll admit it.
