Shame on Ruto/the Kenyan government for this. They are becoming what Rwanda is to the DRC…smuggling out gum
Arabic from Sudan in a middle of a brutal war in exchange for $ to the RSF.

This Sudanese family has been struggling to get to safety, and with the intensified shelling on their neighborhood, things are getting worse.
They're SO close, just over 1,000 away from their goal! Little contributions add up, please consider giving!

The looting of Sudan's National Museum is a tragedy for cultural heritage that only a few people seem bothered by. If the collection can't be recovered, the world will be losing the treasures of one of Africa's greatest ancient cultures.
(Pics taken during my visit in 2020)
I'll never stop being amazed by humans' ability to get together and fight back, support each other, organize relief/aid/etc from the ground up, when they're in the worst, most tragic situations imaginable...

Definition of “kakistocracy” as a government by the least suitable or competent citizens of a state.
Word of the day. Or week. Or next four years.
What we are seeing in Sudan is a mass mobilization of people coordinating relief efforts in the face of an inadequate intl. aid response and an absent civilian state. The situation is catastrophic AND ppl can learn frm the mutual aid networks they built.

Talking to young ppl leading emergency response rooms in Darfur. Al Fashir folks 4rm Abu Shouk camp saying there are no places for ppl to get healthcare + acute hunger crisis. These folks are doing the most with very little esp. through their communal kitchens. Pls support!

Thank you to everyone who kept the same pfp. 😂 To the rest of you, once I figure out who you are I’m whacking you!!
These are all so cool! Thanks for sharing!!
Jood Ahmed is a recent discovery for me (in the last year), and I’m so grateful. I can *smell* her photographs, if that makes sense.
They reflect small town/communal life in a way that is relatable on a cellular level (esp the last 3 photos here).
Something about Hassan Kamil’s photographs is really calming to me. I like how in a lot of his photos the environment seems to swallow up the subjects, but you’re still drawn to them.
The last photo is his latest work. I like that to think it was a callback to the first photo.
