UNSOCIABLE people. Simply pop your coat on before answering the door. If it’s someone you don’t want to see, you can say you’re on your way out. In the unlikely event it’s someone you do want to see, you can simply say you’ve just arrived home. - Jane Hoole Garner, St. Ives

The US & Chinese trade negotiators have negotiated a handshake agreement to seek signoff to agree that a previously-agreed agreement is still their agreed upon agreement. (That agreement is not an agreement but a framework for seeking future agreements.) www.wsj.com/economy/trad...

Good morning.

The minute the Republican tax bill arrives in the Senate, it should promptly be thrown in the trash.

No way to Medicaid cuts. No way to kicking kids off their health care. No way to pushing seniors out of nursing homes.

Democrats are terrified of primaries.

And that's a mistake.

Vibrant primaries produce better candidates, stronger campaigns, new technology, and a lot of highly engaged activists.

It's good for the party overall—both in 2026 and in 2028.

The image is an illustrated map for Memorial Day Weekend, highlighting various events and traffic alerts in the Washington State area. The background features a simplified map with key highways and cities marked. Black lines represent roads, while city names and geographic markers are shown throughout. Various graphical elements and handwritten text denote events and road conditions, such as a rainbow-colored road closure sign and icons like guitars and soccer balls for music and sports events. Areas of note include a guitar icon in central Washington, symbols for sports events near Seattle, and bold red text reading "HEAVY TRAFFIC EVERYWHERE" across the map's center. An American flag, people icons, and cartoonish creatures are also drawn in specific places. The top-right corner has blue text introducing the painted map for May 23-26, and a logo with "WSDOT" at the bottom-right.

Is that...? Bah gawd! That's Paint Map's music! THEY'RE BAAAACK.

It's Memorial Day Weekend, so expect heavy traffic everywhere. While we pause most of our road work during the holiday weekend, you should expect delays because there's (gestures broadly) a LOT happening.

I remember when @lookitup.baby shared that one of their deep magic skills is…just reading the docs. Amazing what inspiration you can get by, say, diving into the minutiae of RFCs & technical specs. Someone once said the juiciest security bugs often come from the densest, most boring parts of docs.

Tip for anyone travelling from SEATAC to downtown Seattle for #msbuild, the Light Rail Link service is ridiculously cheap at $3 and depending on the time of day about the same time or quicker than travelling by Uber. You buy a one way at the station by contactless card / Apple Pay. Super easy.

I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

At this juncture I’d like to point out:
* we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing
* there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world
* a united approach could stop the climate crisis
But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

Toxicologist here! This will improve the health of zero Americans. Current synthetic food dyes are not causing health problems, and are often times used because they are actually safer than natural food dyes. Reminder that guns are the #1 cause of death of children but we are going to ban food dyes.

If you think a just-fertilized ovary is entitled to life but are indifferent to what happens to a kidnapped 4-year-old with cancer, sent to a dangerous country without meds, you don’t give a fuck about the lives of children. You are just in a cult that fetishizes being against abortions.

Since we can’t rely on the HHS, CDC, or FDA to say it, I will:

MAKE SURE YOU ARE VACCINATED AGAINST MEASLES. GET YOUR MMR.

The measles surge in the southwest is now the SINGLE LARGEST OUTBREAK since 2000 and the United States is now at the tipping point for the return of ENDEMIC measles.

Trump’s chaotic tariffs are a five-alarm fire for small businesses.

How can you plan for the future if one tweet from Trump could cause your prices to skyrocket? This is a DISASTER for businesses, consumers, and our trade relationships around the world.

Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.

Remember, don’t engage with any counter protesters. Their goal is to turn our peaceful displays of democracy into violence. And for those who want to believe we are being paid, it’s easy to find out for sure: just show up yourself and get paid too! 😉

The CFPB Has Been Gutted The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau terminated the positions of 1,406 employees at the congressionally mandated agency.

This is getting fewer headlines than it should. After coming to power promising to help working people, the president is revealing his real priorities by actively making it easier for banks to rip people off.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but any govt official who violates someone's constitutional rights -- and is acting outside the scope of their lawful authority -- can be PERSONALLY liable in a civil suit.

ICE officers. Cabinet members. White House staffers. Even the president.

There are and will continue to be painful consequences to Trump's ham-fisted tariffs and chaotic trade war.

I sat down with business & union leaders in Vancouver to hear about what this means for their businesses, workers, and the local economy.

Republicans want to cut Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

That will mean hospitals & clinics closing their doors, moms & babies losing health coverage, seniors cut off from home care services & forced out of long-term care facilities & so much more.
