Pan-species Listing (PSL) by BUBO Welcome to Pan-species Listing, online system for all species listing for any location in the UK.

This could be my new pan-listing obsession. A great site to keep track of your species lists, and compare with others.

First attempts at drawing psyllids. These are odd looking bugs. Working from reference photos is OK if you have a good knowledge of the anatomy of what you are drawing. Psyllids are new to me so I really need a specimen as well to work out how they go together.

A mainly green shieldbug, head uppermost, partly obscured by the spiky green plant in which it is sitting. Large areas of its wing-cases have a reddish hue, with a bluish strip on their outside edges. The yellow abdomen is mostly hidden by the wings but it edge is just visible outside the blue areas.

A basking Gorse Shieldbug, my first shieldbug of the year, seen during Wednesday's one day sunny spell. Back to relentless gloom again since!

I’m entering The Teenager as potential winner of #Duvetknowitschristmas

He’s had to move from his bedroom to the unconverted attic

Cardboard floor & headboard is a nice touch which I’m sure he appreciates

He think it looks like he’s living in a meth den

If you are not ready to hang up your moth trap for the year just yet, please do consider our winter scheme which runs through until March.

Contact your regional coordinator for more information on the winter scheme: gardenmothscheme.org.uk/info

It's the final week of our 2025 summer scheme πŸ’”

Please send your results to your local organiser after emptying your moth trap. Thanks to everyone who took part this year, your records are making a real impact on moth research.

I use it for bats too, though I don't go looking for those as much as Orthoptera 😁

More Large Marsh Grasshoppers (Stethophyma grossum) from our return visit to Westhay Moor NNR on Sunday. The afternoon sunshine after the morning deluges brought them out & we heard much singing from the males. @rockwolf74.bsky.social spotted this fabulous female, liveried in pink & green.

Redirecting...

I use a Magenta 4 for Orthoptera. The smart phone one (Echometer) is really expensive and unfortunately doesn't identify Orthoptera. The iRecord grasshopper app is great for comparing calls in the field. Here's a video of me using Magenta www.facebook.com/watch?v=3396... (detector at about 50 secs)
