The four horsemen of procrastination. @EllisRosen
Wow, I bet most farmers hate them.
My 2nd #PhD supervisor is leaving. This is very sad, as she is so nice and encouraging. π

These are the shoes...
Got feedback from my supervisors. Moving through the stages of #PhD grief;
Can't bear to look; feel over whelmed; want to give up; cheer myself up (buy shoes); and finally actually do something constructive!

If 70% of UK land is farmed, how can you restore nature without funding nature-friendly farming? A digitally created quiz show-style graphic titled Nature or No Nature. Rachel Reeves stands at a glowing blue podium labelled with her name and the show title. Behind her, the screen reads: βIf 70% of UK land is farmed, how can you restore nature without funding nature-friendly farming?β The design mimics a high-stakes TV quiz show, spotlighting the question with dramatic lighting and a sci-fi style blue backdrop to heighten the pressure.
Welcome back to Nature or No Nature!
Rachel Reeves, your own experts say nature-friendly farming is vital for our food security, wildlife, & climate.
Yet we hear you're set to slash the very funding it relies on.
With the clock ticking, and our future to play for, can you answer this question...
Irreplaceable habitats are on the line. This is the reality if an unamended Part 3 of the Bill passes.
It must not.
A screenshot from a scientific brief titled, βWhy our obsession with monetizing forest carbon may be counter productiveβ The full paper can be found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378112725001999
I have long thought forest carbon offsets were just an incursion of Silicon Valleyβs magical thinking in the forestry space, and I was right.
This brief in Forest Ecology and Management does a great job at breaking it down.

AI doesnβt help you work less or get paid more, but does destroy the environment and climate.
Like the mind in meditation. It sometimes needs to be still to know what's going on.

In my retreat they mentioned a saying "when movement is still, the stillness moves." I thought of pond dipping; scoop up muddy water, and see nothing, but when the mud settles, then the creatures become clear and their moves obvious.
It is a way in to discusding indigenous and western views of environmental issues, very readable, so a good way into to think about different approaches to conservation. I have not read Gathering Moss, will have to try
Love that book, recommend it to my masters students
Does anyone else feel they no longer fit in a non-academic arena?
...OK, so you referenced a study, but how about the critique or alternative? What does this really tell us?
Are you just confirming your preconceptions?
Feeling very confused!

I'm at a nature and mindfulness retreat and finding myself irritated. This morning was about awe and fractals, which are lovely, but are sanctified: Nature in the image of humans. Nothing addresses human destruction, or encourages action for nature. It feels too one sided, empty. #natureconnection
I've signed up for a week's retreat in mindfulness and nature. We introduced ourselves today. I said I'm on this retreat partly to support a PhD in wellbeing and nature and partly to escape a PhD in wellbeing and nature... #phdchat #phdsky #academicsky #natureconnection
Much better than full time. Greater space for mulling over thoughts, greater autonomy, greater flexibility and freedom.
Gulf of America; That's the empty space in American Political morals isn't it?
Do you need those articles? Yes, or at least you need to know of them, and know why you don't need them. No one else will do that for you, so that is something that needs to be done to achieve the PhD. So yes, that is PhD work! πππ
Yesterday I listened to pdf papers on #natureconnection.
I walked through a #horse field causing no interest. Today I listened to a pdf on #equinetherapy. This was the interest.

I use a couple of different apps. I used at voice for years, it wasn't particularly good, but I got used to it. I'm using natural reader now, both of those have the advantage of being free. I'd like to try speechify but I need to speak to DSA about getting the funding for it
Today's #research involved listening to pdf papers and making notes whilst walking. Nice reflection of changing seasons. #phdchat #phdsky #academicsky #academia #researchsky
Just booked a nature based mindfulness retreat. It is relevant to my #PhD and not just time away, honest!
It will contribute to sessions that focus on nature or animals to further explore the impact of both on human well being. #PhDsky #academicsky #academicchatter
Also, given Swan lake, I do like carnival of the animals, different ones for different stages...
I have banned myself from writing for 2 weeks. I need to read (although in my case, listen to) research articles, assimilate, and consider. This involves a lot of walking around the garden! #academicsky #phdsky #phdchat
I can only work with dogs snoring. Fortunately that is what accompanies all my writing.
This photograph captures Sir David Attenborough seated outdoors on the rugged terrain of Skomer Island. Behind him, the ocean and coastal cliffs form a scenic backdrop under a clear sky. Sir David, dressed in a khaki jacket and light trousers, looks towards the camera with a gentle expression, exuding a sense of warmth, calm, and wisdom. Around him, puffins can be seen flying and perched on the rocky ground, illuminated in rays of golden sunlight as the sun sets behind the cliffs.
Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. π
Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace.
You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.
Student complaint: my assignment is late as I forgot it. Y offered me a way where I could get a mark for it, instead of 0 for a late assignment. You are not sympathic, so I need a new tutor.

Having foraged a bit in my time, I realised today that I have never eaten plantain buds or pepperwort
