There’s a beautiful hotel in the Korean countryside that I have been grateful to visit many times, a place to play& work & teach. And there is a beautiful cat who, one day, decided to create art for me, a tortoise shell resting on a sea of red.

Some of the fun door props we made in my creative writing class. This was a great activity for the kids to activate a different part of their brains (their Artist Intelligence!). Also pleased to see some strong door descriptions creep into their writing!

The quote of the week for the teens in my creative writing classes, comes from Kate Bingaman-Burt:

B ads of water cradled by a gentle lotus leaf. Last summer, during my stay in Seoul, I made many visits to Bongeunsa Temple and enjoyed the peaceful walkways and small marvels found in quiet corners.

This author’s eye brings you a view of the sky from the forest floor. Or, in my imagination, a giant who fell from the clouds and ripped a hole through the canopy of trees.

This is waiting for my son when he gets home today: I’M BUSY - with illustrations by one of our household’s favourite #kidlit creators, @debbieohi.com, and written by @michaelianblack.bsky.social. (My son’s stuffy is getting a sneak-peek before him!)

I downloaded the fun door-hanger template by @debbieohi.com for the new picture book, I’M BUSY, by her & @michaelianblack.bsky.social (out next week!)
The 7-yr-old decided he was busy stopping his fav stuffy from causing mischief…

Tilting at Windmills β€” Not a Pipe Publishing

Love these gorgeous fox doorknockers I’m adding to my collection. They were gifted to me by the principal of a local school after I delivered my workshop where we designed secret doorways! My son has already put a claim on one of them . . .

In today’s school visit, we imagined characters through their suitcases! Taking inspiration from my book The Secret of Zoone, we developed fun ideas for characters such as Candy Smuggler, Shapeshifting Spy, Magical Creature Spy, etc., & filled their suitcases with the items that defined them.

Fun school visit today talking all things Kendra and Zoone. And I might have just achieved the pinnacle of my career; Kendra’s Land of Een made it on the classroom’s signpost pointing to fantastical realms!

My favourite part of the fridge (not shown here) was the front door, which had a reminder for a tooth-dirtying appointment at the dentist!

Presenting to my son’s own classroom is always a different sort of author visit! We had fun designing the contents of a monster’s fridgeβ€”here the kids have decided to temporarily abandon their own fridges and add to the one I’m modelling at the front.
