My answer to the trolley problem is:
That’s not a trolley, it’s a tram.
No, what you call a tram is a cable car.
No, what you call a cable car is probably a funicular.
Oh, while we were sorting out these important points, the railed vehicle has passed the points. Yes, they are points, not a switch.

Well, it’s certainly not a fritto misto, which is what I’m used to seeing in your food photos… Not sure about the bed of beans -I think I’d prefer some mash on the side.

Recorder nerds like me will be quibbling about the “treble recorder and alto recorder”…

Sorry not to say hello, but you were deep in conversation (was that the other Mark?!). I thought the Sibelius was absolutely superb.

The Sibelius was very, very fine.

For now this is just one poll. But if this trend continues the current FPTP voting system makes no sense anymore.

If you add the SNP and Plaid Cymru to the mix we might end up with a completely random result at the next elections. Which will undermine trust in the U.K. democracy even further.

It’s working for me on both iPad and phone, though I haven’t had to log in very recently.

Couldn’t get to that one, but your recent post on it reminded me to book for his Winterreise in July (🙄): v much looking forward to that - and to the surtitles.

Magnificent! But I also like this, spotted at Minsmere a couple of weeks ago.

In 1972, the 19-yr-old me was much more into Messiaen than birds; I see from my score of Reveil des Oiseaux, bought that year, that the Cetti’s Warbler appears on p.3, on the Eb clarinet (ff, un peu irrité).

That little section with the 4 Wagner tubas in the slow movement is my absolute favourite of all Bruckner: looking forward to hearing it tomorrow night.

Oh dear - as an enthusiastic reader of Stephanie Merritt/SJ Parris's Bruno books, I don’t really want to think about his ultimate fate…

Booked! Many thanks for this info, from a Wagnerian of East London 😎 (who couldn’t get to the 21/3 showing, not because of Siegfried, but because of a gamelan rehearsal for our St Luke’s gig in April…)

Ah well, there I am, on the fringes of the UK classical music community - quite apt, I think…

I thought it had to be a genuine vintage recording: no one uses little crash cymbals like that these days!

I didn’t even know about the RC one until last year, when I went to see Britten Sinfonia playing Et Expecto.

Superb playing! I don’t know M10 as well as the other symphonies (despite having a score of the Cooke, inherited from my father-in-law). Didn’t get around to doing my homework before the performance, but I'm now inspired to stream the Barshai version and see his additions.
