Imagine explaining to future generations that the world spiraled into utter chaos because an old, demented pedophile bombed Iran at the direction of his son-in-law.

Historians are gonna think we made this shit up.

UK energy prices are soaring – and propagandists want to sell you a false reason why | George Monbiot The war on Iran has put fossil-fuel prices centre stage, but don’t believe those who tout ‘maximising the North Sea’ as our salvation, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

If it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between fossil-fuel lobbyists and the billionaire press, that's because there isn’t one.
My column on the politicians, journalists and junktanks using the Iran crisis as an excuse to extract our remaining gas and oil.

It always makes me feel so melancholic when I see those yellowing, weather-curled signs on lamp-posts about missing cromlechs. "Were they ever reunited with their family?" you find yourself wondering. "I hope they were and they just forgot to take this down."

Ancient English Bluebell woodland

Ancient English Bluebell woodland

Years of work transforming ancient woodland, ruined by permissive public access, has resulted in this

It is now fashionable to promote Right to Roam, as though allowing ANYBODY a chance to ruin it again is a good thing

Coming up on 30 years since the Dunblane school shooting massacre (13th March 1996) and watching another documentary about it. The families wanted to end legal handgun ownership and we passed those laws. We’ve not had a school shooting since. I ache for all Americans who cannot get this done there.

This administration is committing Watergate level crimes multiple times per week—and those are the ones we know about. It’s crazy to think about what else will come out after.

It’s absolutely essential these criminals are held responsible for their crimes. We must end elite impunity.

I explained a while ago that it would be impossible to say anything about Trump’s Iranian ‘adventure’ with absolute certainty. I’m sorry, I was wrong. He will *never* do anything that genuinely upsets or angers Vladimir Putin. Whether in Iran, in Ukraine or even in the USA. It is his only constant.

Fears for women’s rights in Chile as anti-abortion president set to take office José Antonio Kast, who voted against legalising divorce in 2004, has pushed for return to total abortion ban

Chile's new president is extremely right-wing, Catholic, with Nazi roots. But women in Chile are strong and organized. “Women are having abortions right now, they will be doing it tomorrow, and they will keep doing it – no rightwing government will stop that." - member of Con las Amigas y En La Casa

This war:

1. Is good news for Russia

2. Is bad news for our Labour government

3. Diverts from Trump's involvement with Epstein.

Seems like a good strategy as far as Trump is concerned.

Wahls: The war in Iran is going to be devastating for farm states like Iowa. You mentioned diesel — that is what the vast majority of farm machines, like tractors or combines, run on. And the cost of oil not only has a huge impact on fuel costs, it also has a huge impact on other farm inputs

Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.

This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.

44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.

I was actually talking about the British media, which is doing its usual gung-ho stuff about backing “the special relationship” with the US. However, a few polls have already shown that a majority of the public don’t want British troops involved in any war in Iran or the Middle East!

06.03.2026 17:03 👍 86 🔁 11 💬 11 📌 0

Most of the media is demanding that everybody supports the war effort. Well, sod that. This is an illegal conflict, launched by a decrepit American to distract from his domestic problems, which has already killed hundreds of women and children. I didn’t back the Iraq war in 2003. Nor this one!

So, Johnson, Farage, Badenoch, the Telegraph… howl about the UK being “an irrelevance on the world stage”.
Remind me again who decided to isolate us with a strategically and economically idiotic Brexit, relying on a trade deal with the US to save us from exactly the kind of weakness they now bemoan.

Wildflowers, a couple of springs ago, in the churchyard in Buckfastleigh, Devon. This is actually a very spooky spot in winter as it's the resting place of the allegedly Satanic Squire Richard Cabell - inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Baskerville legend - whose corpse is boxed in by a somewhat incongruous structure, a little pagoda-ish, but also not unlike the kind of public toilet you might find in a small British town, which sits on the south side of the church. Do NOT walk around it backwards as the Devil will bite your fingers and Cabell will release his hell hounds. Also, the church has been burned down by Satanists not once but TWICE in the last couple of centuries. (I wrote about all this in more detail in my book 21st-Century Yokel, and a couple of the scarier gravestones inspired bits in my novel Villager.
