One of my Scottish g g grandmothers surname was spelled differently on every record of her (ie birth, marriage birth of children)MacClure, MacAleer, McLure, McCleary, McLeary are just a fewβ¦..I have many other examples. When folk were illiterate others spelled names for them. π€·π»ββοΈ

My g g g grandmother immigrated alone to Australia from Germany and married shortly after arrival having a baby 5 months later. She had given birth a year earlier in Germany to a baby girl who died - father unknown. Her sibling remained in Germany and no clue there as to the father. #genealogy
