Dusting this one off again:
A decent chunk of my political philosophy is embodied by the phrase "It's never okay to kill children."
some advice for the 17 to 25 bracket: don't let cowardly people live out their bloodlust through you vicariously. you just get damaged joints, missing friends, and memories that won't go away.
Thanks for writing it, and for signing my copy!
You should read this. I liked it.
Everyone please read At the End it’s good I promise
Wow if only there were people who know how to do dairy that they could have talked to
like, literally anyone who works in dairy
wowee the finale of a feminist spy thriller surprised me! I knew things would get wild but I did not expect it to go like that. Pls get me a #PONIES season 2 immediately
That's really embarrassing for me. Measure twice, jump once and all that
I can't rule out the possibility that you'll want to get your friends together to play "sad lady spies get shit done under pressure" during recess. You can be the rakish KGB agent or maybe the pitiful wife guy at the US Embassy who decides one of the lady spies is right to care about women idk
-Why is Haley Lu Richardson so attractive to me and can somebody please put her in Star Wars or a Knives Out or something else I'll for sure watch anyway?
-Bad things will happen to everyone, but do some people deserve it? Who do I think deserves to suffer, or put another way, whose suffering do I believe can I safely ignore? Reframed again, who am I willing to try to protect from undue suffering and why?
-Given you can't have perfect knowledge of everything all the time, who and what warrants your attention and interest? What are the potential consequences of ignoring whoever you deem it safest to ignore? Who do I, personally, think of as fungible or disposable, and in what contexts?
-How far should you stick your own neck out for a person or a cause, knowing you don't have the power to fix anything unilaterally and *not* knowing whether or how much anyone else will do alongside you?
Some things I've had cause to stop and think about:
-How do you move forward when you're surrounded by implacable, corrupt institutions that won't think twice about taking everything you love? What about when they've already taken everything?
The text of PONIES does some heavy lifting--it's funny when it should be, tense most of the time, and scary when it should be. But good gravy, the context, subtext, and pretext of PONIES are grabbing me by the lapels and demanding my attention.
The thing about genre fiction is it's got to be about something more than the genre. You know, the text is "Spies do spy stuff, no one knows who to trust, and everyone is in danger so your fitbit might think you're exercising." But a spy story should speak to some question of the soul.
Spy thrillers are not my bag, but I really enjoy watching @vicmmic.bsky.social on @dropout.tv, so when I learned they're in a spy show set in 1970s Moscow I figured I'd give it a go. Friends, please log in to the Peacock app and watch PONIES. Or watch it, uh, somewhere else if you need to idk.
i think gavin newsom fucking sucks and if you ever try to guilt me into voting for him i’ll scream
Person walking in the march waving a One Piece pirate flag. They have orange dyed hair and are wearing a rainbow shirt. Sign to their right reads "ICE FUERA AHORA AHORA AHORA AHORA"
One guy tried, unsuccessfully, to blow up a plane with a bomb in his sneakers, and everybody had to take off their shoes at the airport for the next 20 years.
Chatbots have a collective body count equal to Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramirez, and they're trying to put them in schools.
Also, when reporters start talking about the chatbots this way, it is imperative to remind them they are basically asking a toaster for comment. They should be a lot more embarrassed about this than they currently are.
“Grok told CNN…” no it didn’t. You typed stuff into an unreliable calculator.
Once again, delete X. It's a creep site for creeps.
I'm excited (and a nerd)!
@pobguy.bsky.social I just reread your @fangraphs.com piece on torpedo bats from April. Curious if you've analyzed bat performance from the 2025 season or are aware of any good writeups? I haven't seen any academic or pop media articles with any data analysis
good piece with an incidental insanely brutal takedown of klein
"they don't know how to express the idea" here's rian johnson's storyboard for knives out

It's real good
