librarians are generals in the war on ignorance
So hard to tell fact from fiction these days -
Much as I would not dare to predict the consequences of this war, I do think we can summarize it thusly so far:
A smart and evil man manipulated a stupid and evil man into a war against a fanatical and evil regime.
You can bomb the world into pieces, but you canβt bomb it into peace.

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.
You can't call immigrants lazy moochers looking for government handouts and then round them up at Home Depots where you know they are looking for work.
You can't say immigrants don't follow the rules and then round them up in courthouses where they are following the rules.
Get your lies straight.
Seatbelts donβt prevent car crashes but they do help protect you if you crash. For some reason, everyone understands this type of conditional protection well until weβre talking about a vaccine they prevents severe disease.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.
I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you.
The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.
Letβs be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

The economy is a wreck, but they are pretending we are in a palace.
At the stroke of midnight the tarriffs will invoke more madness & the only question will be who will keep their lips tight & who will fight
For the people that is!
Congratulations to Judge Susan Crawford on her victory, and to the people of Wisconsin for electing a judge who believes in the rule of law and protecting our freedoms.
I've started to realize that Anne Frank and her family wouldn't have been safe around a lot of people I know and loved and once respected.
That's not something you get over.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen displays of unfettered cruelty.
Cruelty isnβt power. Itβs a primal display of weakness and ignorance.
Kindness and empathy are intelligence. We must never forget that.
