The Tanker War
The impact of mines—and mine countermeasures—in the 1980s Persian Gulf showdown offers potent lessons for today’s Marine Corps.
Hearing Iran is laying mines in the Gulf triggered something in the back of my memory hole about naval mines being a big deal when I was younger.
Found this while on a surfing dive into this topic, and it turns out I wasn't even in high school when this was a thing.

I am old enough to remember when foreign ownership interest was enough to kill a media ownership deal and when the FCC spent years trying to implement rules for disclosure of foreign programming content.

I think people have really underestimated how much internet content regulation is possible.
KOSA and the other 12 bills in Congress would have been absolutely unconstitutional a year ago under the Reno precedent, but after Thomas's flip-flop on AV in FSC last summer, there's room to regulate now.

tweet from Mark Meador @MeadorFTC on Mar 5
People who argue that age verification requires collecting and retaining massive troves of personal data are not operating in good faith. They're just paid by people who want to prey on your kids.
Trump's FTC Chair posts that people opposing age-verification surveillance are just shills being "being paid by people who want to prey on your kids."
The lengths this administration goes to delegitimize dissent is staggering.

When a train crashed in Minot, N.D., and a noxious cloud of ammonia gas spread across town, there was no one at the radio stations to sound the alarm and inform residents. "This is just a glaring example of a media system that has no allegiance to local communities,” said @victorpickard.bsky.social.

In Milwaukee for the first part of spring break.
Both of the gas stations by my house just went above $3 a gallon today.
I paid 2.23 on Feb 22nd at one of them.

I have been saying this for over a year.
The distance between now and normal can be measured in "find your spine just long enough to uphold your sworn oath units," and we're not even talking about that many of those.
