I love studying insects, teaching genetics and connecting on Bluesky. I don't care how pretty you are or how many followers you have. Please don't try to sell me anything but ideas.

That pattern reminds me of Rosalind Franklin's famous xray crystallography work that enabled Watson and Crick to solve the structure of the DNA double helix.

This is a topic that might keep you up at night.

I’ve watched β€œAlien” too many times to feel comfortable putting one of those up close to my face.

Its nice to see the protective measures being talked about alongside the intended benefits. A concern with gene drives in insects has always been their potential to break out of the intended target population and spread to the wild. Star Trek fans know it’s wise to abide by the Prime Directive.

Rare moths have their adherents but parasitoid wasps convert you from the inside.

I understand. I was thinking more about the crocodiles that would have been in the shallows while Amubulocetus et al. were doing their thing. There were crocodilians that spent more time on land than those alive today so maybe hanging out in the water was actually safer.

Except for that whole placental vs. marsupial distinction.

Keep it clean now, Pemberley!

It's fascinating to see reconstructions of the crocodile relatives that were alive while the transition to the water was occurring. Scary beasts!

How such a comment expressing enthusiasm for learning can be followed by a comment such as your own isn't beyond me but it is regrettable.

Haha. I think you'd be right as long as it's understood that the 56 million year old ancestor to the modern hippo probably didn't look like a modern hippo. (-;

Are you asking whether or not it is more likely that cetaceans evolved from fish or an amphibian?

DNA is a powerful persuader. Unfortunately, you need to know a little bit about DNA and how it changes to understand the incredible power this molecule has to help us understand the evolution of all life. The story and the tools to tell it are incredibly remarkable. Search: "ERVs Whales Hippo".

It might be worth pointing out that there is also zero evidence of associating with Epstein.

I’ll never Fget. Possibly because of my memory of Lessa but especially because everyday I read threads on Bluesky.

What will it take to make more Republicans cringe at their intransigence and clear culpability in J6 and everything that has happened since?

Don’t take this wrong, but I look forward to the day when your β€œstate”, whether undercover or flamboyant, is passΓ© rather than newsworthy. There are so many other things for people to get exercised about! I hope their attention turns soon. Happy Mew Year (the autocorrect is apparently a cat lover).

Wasn’t this the argument John Searle made in his β€œChinese room” essay? He thought consciousness couldn’t be separated from biology. Daniel Dennett dragged him through the mud for that.

I think Kushner’s job is to make sure there’s a Trump Tower for the Orange Palpatine to retreat to in the ME.

Yes, let’s make every aspect of our lives transactional. We might even get implants to help us make efficient purchases. What a nightmare.

Are the Chinese playing magical beans? Didn’t they recently agree to take some soybeans from U.S. farmers? Didn’t Brazil recently catch Bolsonaro attempting to flee the country for the U.S.? Maybe this is all part of an agreement with Trump. Oh, geez, it sounds way too conspiratorial. Then again…

You got enough done to make it easy to cover, right? If it stats try you can resume as soon as the rain lets up. Good work.

I think this should be the case locally as well. Spread the word about Blue Businesses. Best wishes!

Can you share the best place to go in his works to see him dissing on Darwin, please? It's been a while since I read much of FN. I've studied a lot of biology in the interim. Thanks!

ICE: Seat them at your restaurant. Take their pictures. Take their orders. Then ask them to leave for disturbing the peace or disruptive behavior. Or, just get their orders remarkably wrong. Give them raw meat. They’re there to trash your community. It’s not like they’re coming back.

I'm guessing she has some farmer's blood in her lineage. Seriously, he was probably a rake of some sort. That's how she comes up with kid names like Yardley and Thatcher. Hopefully, she's had enough children or we'd be apt to see a little Pitchfork wandering around the studio.
