much love to straight girls but they just don’t know what it’s like to hold your five bloodstones in your hand and see that three of them are corrupted and know deep down that you will never ever ever get to be like the other girls

magik is a lesbian. because straight girls don’t fret over how 3 of the 5 bloodstones that comprise their soul have been corrupted or worry that it means they are destined to be evil. this just doesn’t happen to them

they’re doing all those variant covers using the design template from the original event and im like yes this exactly what i want, covers where the illustration takes up only half the cover and the rest is a solid red πŸ₯΄

this is one of the first things i learned when i started writing fanfiction in high school πŸ˜‚ to be fair, i haven’t been reading much fanfiction recently, so maybe the conventions have changed. but i think it’s more likely that this guy just doesn’t know what he’s talking about

that article speculating that romance readers prefer reading novels in first person bc they’re used to fanfiction is so bizarre bc if you are at all familiar with fanfiction you will know that fanfic stories in first person are uncommon and that many readers will refuse to read them!

All About Eve (1950): Margo’s Confrontation
#11 in the 40 movies I haven’t seen from the AFI 100!

Easily one of the best movies I’ve ever seen with the most perfect casting imaginable in Bette Davis.

The food was good, but not fancy: autumn pears and russet apples, nuts and raspberries, hot redcurrant pancakes, soft spice bread, cheeses, and mint tea, with flagons of cordial for those who wanted it.

GLAAD MEDIA AWARD WINNER: OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices By Anthony Oliveira, Elsa Sjunneson, Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, Pablo Collar, Charles Stewart III, Alti Firmansyah, Minkyu Jung, KJ DΓaz, Ruth Redmond, Dono SΓ‘nchez-Almara, Ariana Maher, Joe Caramagna (Marvel Infinity Comics)

I am so thankful for the gift of this recognition on behalf of myself and all of the crew on Avengers Academy. We strove week after week to make art worthy of our community – to deepen and enrich the world for queer, trans, and HIV+ representation and readership, to insist we belonged in these worlds of fiction and in the world that dreams them. We wanted both to illuminate queer stories told long ago and to trailblaze new paths forward. It was not always easy, but it was always worth it.

I am so proud of this work, and so honoured to have it so celebrated. Thank you.

Thank you to all the impossibly gifted collaborators on this project for all your brilliance, enthusiasm, and generosity: our regular artists Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, and Pablo Collar; our colorists KJ Diaz and Ruth Redmond; our letterists Ariana Maher and Joe Caramagna; as well as our numerous guest talents – who enriched this book week after week with their gifts and perspectives. Thanks too to our editors, Lindsey Cohick, Sidney Stubbs, Wil Moss, and founding editor and Sarah Brunstad who willed this book into life. Time and again this book redefined what could happen, how it could look and read, and above all who could be in a superhero comic, and I could not be prouder.

And, with great admiration and profoundest appreciation, thank you to my community, for always lifting me up. Finding all of you has been the great gift of my life. This category is full of the fellow artists who showed me there was a place for us to create and to live in this world, and I live in the enduring blessing of their work.

I said it when we ended, and I will say it here again: comics will mend your heart, if you let them. When I was a scared, lonely, closeted kid, the Marvel universe’s heroes were there for me when very little else was. That is a debt I can never pay back, but one I’ve tried with great travail to pay forward. I want to believe we have afforded a little of that same refuge to those who soug…

it feels like there’s something the author is not saying, about how the presence of women would alter or disrupt the book club. and i wish he would say it. i want to know.

i enjoyed reading about how much this book club meant to these men. i found it relatable how they would get excited about discussing books with their friends. but it’s not clear to me why an all-male group is necessary for this experience.

lithub.com/what-i-learn... interesting read. i am not convinced that all-male book clubs are valuable, or that the total maleness of this author’s book club is a beneficial quality for its members. at best i think it’s only neutral. and that’s at BEST.
