Why some LGBTQ+ groups oppose the current Kids Online Safety Act
Major national groups withdrew their opposition after the bill was revised — but some groups, especially in states with restrictive laws, say it could still be a threat.
I've written in-depth about why (some) LGBTQ+ groups oppose KOSA. In particular, queer and trans advocates organizations in red states and rural areas fear that it will lead to removing resources or erase LGBTQ+ content, both of which are essential supports for kids.

i understand that OP is probably well meaning but this is absolutely not how i want to hear cis people talking about trans issues at the moment. i don't care about bravery. bravery doesn't change our material conditions, bravery doesn't stop the machines looking to churn us up into meat.

13K immigrant truck drivers lose California licenses
Many of them live or work in the Bay Area.
They’re extremely committed to the “make every aspect of US industry and life grind to a fucking halt” bit

Guys, you don't have to worry about the trolley problem. I live in Lisbon. We have actual trolleys, and they don't run people over. What you REALLY need to be studying is the Funicular Problem

Americans love to wring their hands over how killing thousands of innocent people might create consequences for America rather than the abject evil of killing thousands of innocent people

A particularly worrying finding: over half of self-described Republicans under 50 are Holocaust deniers.
Working class politics are no longer sufficient to be on the left. If you are not also explicitly liberatory, antiracist, and pluralistic, you can’t sit at our table.

Dear journalists,
I know there's a lot going on right now. But I think it's very important that you investigate which DOGE bro stole the social security data from the government.
And ideally, figure it out before the midterms. Because it would be good to know what they were doing in Nov 2024.

remember what I said about how, when Trump is flailing or incompetent, the media just subs in a totally fake version of Trump who is rational and not fucking up? Great example here

A Saudi official saying this on Al Jazeera, a Qatari media outlet, is far more telling than any nugget of information carefully leaked to an American media outlet.
This war will permanently alter the relationship of the Gulf states, the US, and Israel.

Increasingly of the opinion that the correct answer to the Trolley Problem is "fuck you, why are you so fixated on finding reasons to justify killing people?"

Even with the bathroom issue aside, instantly invalidating legally acquired driver's licenses and criminally punishing people for driving with said legally issued license, with NO grace period to change it, should have been an instant stay. This judge must be a conservative transphobe, period.

imagine riding bart in the last 3 years, with the new gates and the on-train inspectors and thinking they’d gotten more lax about fare evasion

this is also my ongoing frustration. you can not run for office on "democracy is under threat" and then lose and go "oh well, nice game everyone"
they put us in a constant state of hypervigilance & terror begging for our last $5 to save the country and then they do the joint softball game.

I do kind of wonder if part of the push for the idea that highly compressed AI writing is a better replacement for human writing is that a large number of people are functionally illiterate and don’t understand nuance, figurative language, or any of of the flourishes that make writing creative.

BREAKING: A judge refused to block a Kansas law that invalidates the driver’s licenses of transgender people and allows trans people to be sued for using public restrooms.
This isn't the final say, and we will keep fighting in court to stop this discriminatory law.

Really dark that they couldn’t stay a law that is so obviously malicious, immediately harmful, violates due process, and which implies an ex post facto determination that previously updating documents legally was actually illegal.
How can we trust courts with rulings this obviously wrong?
