Elpis Crystals worked by drawing upon the inmate magic in the air, and turned that magic into energy, essentially becoming the batteries of the new age. Not only that, but humans could funnel their own magicks into the crystals as well, making them infinitely renewable.
Clearly you didnβt read the whole thread. Iβm not talking bad about Gen 4 and 5; Iβm saying that aside from the monotonous grind, the difficulty of the games more or less has stayed the same since then.
Elpis Crystals became not just the new power source for humanity, but it soon became clear that these had been the kind of power source that humanity had always dreamed of. Efficient, sustainable, renewable, and environmentally-friendly.
200 years after the Great Collapse, humanity found it. While tunneling beneath the land, they found these crystals that seemed to be capable of storing magicks and turning them into raw energy for machinery. These were dubbed Elpis Crystals, and humanity soon began digging deeper, hungry for more.
The Archive would serve as the home of the Mage Council, and where new aspiring mages would learn the mystic arts. However, humanity soon longed for the technology of old. Unfortunately, that tech no longer worked, so they begain searching for a new, better power source they could work with.
With time, humanity soon learned how to survive in this new world. The Duality lingered for a time, but once enough humans had learned and archived all they could teach, they took their leave. But before they did, they helped construct a great vault in the tallest mountain known as the Archive.
Dragons, fae, golems, elementals, mermaids, you name it. Humanity, in their small-mindedness, chose to brand these mutants as dangerous freaks of nature, banishing them from the land to die at sea. These poor souls became known as the Daroka.
It also began to affect humans. For most, it opened the door for developing spells, utilizing newly formed wells of magical energy channeled through their soul. But on rare occasionβ¦the changes were physical and unpredictable. They would evolve into beasts plucked straight from myth and legend.
The Great Collapse effected far more than just the atmosphere; the magic released in the aftermath started to change wildlife all over what was left of the world.
Sea life underwent rapid mutation, as did the last vestiges of land-based animals, like an accelerated evolution.
In the wake of the Great Collapse, long dormant magical energies were released into the air. With humanity fresh out of working tech, the Duality took to teaching them how to survive without it, and how to channel the magic in the air for spells. These early mages formed the first Council.
The Duality.
A pair of what are believed to be gods, who stepped in to save what remained of humanity from the Great Collapse. Utilizing incredibly powerful magicks, they raised what remained of Asia above sea level and stopped the sea from rising any further.
In the wake of the Great Collapse, 90% of humanity was wiped out. Those who survived were those already out on the open sea, and those without non-electric means of sailing were left stranded until the tides brought them to the last bastion of hope, another feat attributed to the Duality.
(To clear things up, Iβve decided to drip feed small tidbits of lore and concepts from a story Iβve been cooking up. Expect more to come.)
The Great Collapse.
A cataclysmic event of unknown origin. It caused all forms of technology at the time to cease functioning, and caused the sea levels to rise and threaten to swallow the Earth. All but Asia was swallowed by the sea, and only barely was it not fully engulfed thanks to the Duality.
Me to all these new followers
(No maliciousness, just genuine confusion Iβm not used to this aaaaaaaaaaa)
@kitsunemizukisup2.bsky.social Okay, so I keep seeing follows from your accounts, andβ¦Iβm a little perplexed as to why you would follow me. Iβm not mad, just a bit confused as to why.
@kitsunemizuki.bsky.social Why have you followed me?
PokΓ©mon didnβt get easier. It just got more casual-friendly and refined its core gameplay.
I guarantee you that when Generation 10 comes, PokΓ©mon, much like its titular monsters, will have evolved and refined itself even further.
Now just give Game Freak the time it needs to make sure it works!
βyou could turn it off. Suddenly experience grinding was not a colossal amount of work; it was a massive time saver.
Gen 7 did much the same thing, and put a spin on the gyms with the Totem trials.
Fast forward to Gen 9, and now ANY PokΓ©mon can become competitively optimal.
Gen 5 came around, and it was a lot of the same shit. But then came Gen 6, and it began a trend of Game Freak starting to make the grinding process easier. The Exp. Share was upgraded to a key item that affected all of your PokΓ©mon, not just one at a time. And if you didnβt want it for some reasonβ
Not to mention, the Exp. Share was still a held item back then; it didnβt work the way it did in Gens 6 and 7. Sure, it made the process of level grinding slightly easier, but it was still a massive chore. More than anything, PokΓ©mon became a time sink that consumed hundreds of hours just grinding.
The Physical/Special split had been put into place, and it was when competitive truly began to soar. But with that came new problems. It was tough finding optimal PokΓ©mon for your team, and everyone grinded like crazy just to make their teams competitively viable. Donβt lie to me, itβs true.
If we want to make a fair comparison, then look no further than what many consider the height of PokΓ©mon, Gen 4.
They were still working out the kinks of course in this one, but by this point, PokΓ©mon was slowly taking its definitive shape.
Now I will say, if weβre comparing from Gen 1 to now, yes. It has become easier.
But thatβs only because Gen 1 was the first games and had ridiculous balance issues that made them really really hard. When itβs the first in the series, thatβs not a fair comparison.
Small tangent:
People like to claim that PokΓ©mon games are becoming easier with each generation.
Past Gen 3, I can confidently sayβ¦no it fucking hasnβt. The battle system just became more refined with each entry, and it became much less of a grind. Thatβs all.

New games keep coming out, and I realize Iβll have to get a new computer soon to keep up. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero just released and it is a dream come true. Not everythingβs perfect, but itβs a damn sight better than last year.
As stated last year, my ambitions have often outstripped my abilities. However, Iβve been looking into ways to expand those abilities, and as ever, I continue to improve on my story writing. Eventually I may start sharing tidbits of whatβs in the works. (𧡠2/?)
