I found an attempt to expand on one of these designs, I thought they had neat protagonist energy to them! I really expanded on the frog motif, and you can see the Boomboxer (a Super Paper Mario enemy) influences too.

You don’t really need a budget to do indie animation, the problem is “indie animation” has been reduced to bigger budget/studio works with insane frame-by-frame animation, a big crew/voice cast and a merch line instead of scrappy shit you make in a week by yourself or with some friends in Flash.

As a Blue Shell lover, this is the best alternate execution of the power-up I've ever seen. Well it's the only alternate I've seen but still. Love it, especially the water-skipping.

I've actually been thinking about this all day because of an earlier thing I reposted about how we should be doing art with cheapness. Like, I am all for that shit. Put every frame, pose, establishing shot on one or two papers and snap photos.
