You don't need to compare what's going on in America to 1984.
There's already a real historical regime that you can compare it to.
Really my only take on all of this:
If you've even paid the *minimal* attention to Trump, ICE, MAGA, etc. you know that what happened isn't shocking.
But at what point is it enough for people to finally wake up? Or for people to do something?
It's been blatant. What's the excuse.
Heading into 2025 my New Years Resolution was to have a year where I was truly happy with myself. Honestly, I succeeded. Had a lot of successes this year and a lot of clarity to what truly made me happy.
So I guess in 2026 it's to maintain that momentum into something even better. Hard task.
Simply having a wonderful christmas time
I understand the case to why people think Mariah Carey has the worst Christmas song ever.
But for the same reason, I think it's Paul McCartney's.
Dodgers replaced an aging JD Martinez with Shohei Ohtani. Need addressed.
A mediocre corner OF situation with Teoscar Hernandez.
Disappointing 2023 rotation with Yamamoto and Glasnow. Ohtani helps too.
Unhealthy/inconsistent rotation with Snell and Sasaki.
I need people to realize the Dodgers are actually very targeted with how they use their assets.
Simply going "oh [player] is available? hes a dodger!!!"
Every major signing or trade they've made has addressed a real need of theirs.
Yes, the Dodgers have had weaknesses.
Astros are not looking for anything substantial in return, they just wanna get him off the roster.
So I think the easy answer is make the contract work by swapping Senzy and then working a trade from there.
Hot Take is that I actually think this would be a fantastic buy low for the Rockies
Happiest I've been since we extended Nolan. And that was the only thing that really happened that offseason.
Even if these hires don't work out as well as hoped, this is the first time I've *ever* seen the Rockies give a genuine effort to modernize.
Random Rockies take:
After the Edwin Diaz signing the Rockies swing a deal with the Dodgers for Brusdal Graterol
Could headaches be the worst thing ever commonly afflicted on mankind
The way I look at it is that this new FO is a truly fresh slate, so I think I deserve to give them a fresh slate in expectations.
I shouldn't be thinking of Schmidt/Bridich issues when thinking of DePodesta/Byrnes. They're unrelated.
Sad to see Romo go. It was a draft pick I predicted, so I've got some attachment.
With that said it's been abundantly clear he doesn't have an MLB bat. And that just doesn't work in the modern game.
Me: "Oh I should add that to my christmas list! It'd be so huge!"
*opens up my christmas list*
"wait what was I adding again"
UGHH
DePodesta you could have reasonable doubt about and I understand
Byrnes is such a good hire that I thought I read the wrong team when we made it
Rockies having a quietly good offseason
The game is pretty fun to play, the story is peak.
Me being a weeb for a sec:
When I got into Umamusume it just looked like a fun management sim. I don't like gacha but it seemed fun nonetheless.
After playing the game and watching like everything, I can't believe it's one of the best things I've ever consumed. Baffling.
Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.
Ultimately completely fine with this and think that the key hires will really be his supporting staff
Also furthermore on earlier,
Kris Bryant is the worst contract in Rockies history.
But why did the Rockies feel the need to pay KB anyways?
Because of the Nolan Arenado trade.
An interesting question asked was "What was the worst move in Rockies history?"
The answer is the Nolan Arenado trade, but technically, the real answer is the Daniel Murphy signing.
But I say the Arenado trade cause it was the nail that cemented the worst era in Rockies history.
Every year the Rockies have one hitter that is unexpectedly good and then they fall back down to earth
Realistically itβs probably Goodman but like, Moniak also falls into that category
Not expecting any Rockies non-tenders, everyone has a role and is affordable for the projected price.
I'd only *maybe* consider Feltner but that's really only if the Rockies found something in his medicals they don't like.
Random Trade Prediction:
Yanquiel Fernandez to the Pirates
It has begun!!!
DePodesta has the brain to make baseball at altitude work. I think he's going to have to challenge a lot of his preconceived notions to get there.
It's really just a matter of effort and attitude for him. In previous Rockies front offices, it was that and more which made it impossible.
