Day 117 Physics - how does pipe diameter affect pressure? Velocity? Students explored this and how water towers help provide water pressure sans electricity using @phetsims.bsky.social sim docs.google.com/document/d/1... #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 116 Physical Sci - Did a reading and Q about big bang. Way too many lessons spent on Bb just for Ss to regurgitate evidence for it. Would love to improve how I teach this topic. I just get stuck spending so long modeling Doppler effect as a way to bridge waves + Astro #iteachphysics #teach180

Day 116 Physics - continued with a lot of fluid phenomenon modeling. What variables affect pressure? Used @phetsims.bsky.social phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/un... to help explore. Broke a couple rulers for an atmos pressure demo and then Ss modeled the titan submersible π¬ #iteachphysics #teach180
Hi science-teacher people. Would you like a year-long series of #APBio activities, structured to be chunked into you other lesson structures to keep your students engaged via variety of modalities? To both modify and share freely? Here you go: drive.google.com/file/d/18hyy...
Day 115 Physical Sci - compared big bang to race analogy. If most galaxies are red shifted, what can that tell us if we rewind the motion? Used our previous graph to calculate age of galaxies #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 115 Physics - Began out Fluids & Plumbing unit. Started with a video of a monster can getting crushed as it sinks then investigated Pressure vs depth, used vernier to collect data, desmos to graph. Ended with predict the depth that is fatal to humans #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 114 Physical Sci - Connected red shift, Doppler, expanding universe, hubbleβs constant all to build evidence for building evidence for the Big Bang #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 114 Physics - Finished up simple motors and whiteboarded magnetic fields and explained how the right hand rules could help explain what is happening. Disassembled some old (mini) motors #iteachphysics #teach180
Brilliant idea!!
Anyone have a clever and sustainable way to store alligator clip wires? #iteachphysics
Day 113 Physics - Students had to brainstorm then construct a simple motor using basic materials today. Lots of guiding questions but very few direct answers #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 113 Physical Sci - expanding balloons as the universe, Doppler balls for playing catch, and reviewing emission spectra all to figure out that the universe is expanding. Quantified Doppler effect with vernier sound sensor and graphical analysis pro w FFT
#iteachphysics #teach180
Day 112 Physical Sci - broke out our spectroscopes and viewed the sky and different colored light bulbs. Ended with viewing H, He, and Ne emissions to understand how we know what stars are made of #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 111 Physical Sci - Rough lesson intro red blue shift shift. Not a lot of engagement and Ss talking. But 2nd half gave a Doppler reading Qs and Ss locked in. Annoying when βgoodβ teaching like whiteboard modeling fall flat but a WS hits #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Day 112 Physics - showed students a video on how electric dc motors work and had them model and explain the anatomy #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/presentation...
Day 111 Physics - began with an inquiry lab by making solenoids around different diameter nails. Students wrapped coils and counted how many paper clips they could pick up. Predict what happens when switching the wires.
Went over notes on 1st and 2nd right hand rules #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 110 Physical Sci - took students outside to find a sliver of direct sunlight to pass through triangular prisms. Continued talking through Doppler effect to lead into red shift blue shift #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 110 Physics - Electromagnetism demos and notes. Began the class with lots of snickering, not sure why. #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 109 Physics - more magnetic field whiteboarding and notes. Brought out compasses. Big βlightbulbβ moment when we brought compasses around our lightbulb circuits #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 108 Physical Sci - EM Spectrum and Waves Quiz today #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Day 108 Physics - began magnetism today, basic notes on magnetic fields and flux. Took bar magnets and placed them in a sheet protector. Ran out of iron filings so used steel wool dust to create various field demos #iteachphysics #teach180
Day 107 Physics - Students presented their circuit projects and calculations. Onto magnetism tomorrow! #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Day 107 Physical Sci - EM Spectrum Reading and Study Guide today. Began with modeling why sky is blue. Lots of small group work after #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Day 106 Physical Sci - Station Readings on the different parts of the EM Spectrum. Jigsawed info to answer if each form of light is harmful and which forms make it to Earths surface #iteachphysics #teach180 docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Day 106 Physics - back from midwinter break! Finishing up circuit project with students diagramming and calculating voltage, current, and resistance for each pathway. Used #vernier probes to check their answers #iteachphysics #teach180
Fortunately, the partnership of science and citizen advocacy led to programs like the #TacomaTreeFoundation and #GreenBlocks which offer residents in the South end free trees to help bridge this inequity. Learn more at www.tacomatreefoundation.org thanks for the free trees!
