I have taught at university level long enough to have encountered a few students who embrace this idea that being a contrarian is somehow a mark of deep intellect. They will typically question very basic facts while relying on truisms & long-debunked ideas which they leave unquestioned.

Okay, look, readers have preferences, literary tastes adn dominant paradigms are always in a state of change, whatever, but maybe if you don't like worldbuilding, fantasy is not actually the genre you should be reading?
