The thing is, it's not going to just harm those on Medicaid. It'll harm all of us by shutting down clinics across the country, particularly in rural areas. It'll also cost us millions of jobs and harm the economy. The only ones who win are rich people who can afford private hospitals.

Baby chickens on a poultry farm. A black gradient takes up the bottom third of the image. On top of it, white text reads, “The Sick Times. What we know about the U.S. bird flu outbreak and its chronic disease risk, by Melody Schreiber.”
White text on a purple background and red highlights reads, "“I think we’re there,” said Lakdawala, an influenza virologist and co-director of the Center for Transmission of Airborne Pathogens at Emory School of Medicine. “Now is when people should be concerned and take it seriously.”
And she has a new concern: People might wait to take it seriously until there’s widespread transmission among humans. But by then, it would be too late to prevent a pandemic."
The U.S. leads the global tally of H5N1 cases. Here's what we know about the U.S. bird flu outbreak and its chronic disease risk — including that many of the same precautions, like masking, that work against COVID-19 also work well to prevent the flu. bit.ly/41Xc4IF

When you feel yourself becoming complacent or surrendering to hopelessness or apathy, remember that everything that exists today exists because someone(s) dreamt it up and decided to put in the work to make it a reality. We can create new ways of doing things, new ways of being, new worlds.

Since the start of COVID, the number of people reporting a disability soared. Yet the majority of the world acts like COVID is over, and Long COVID doesn't exist.

"You do not have a mandate to cut Medicaid." ~ Rep. Al Green
It doesn't surprise me that a disabled Black person is the one to speak up to power. With a point of his cane, he became an icon for disabled people around the country.

Gather and be gathered in community. Do not tear each other down; build each other up.
Feel every emotion deeply, and bring that with you. Breathe in, breathe out. Now let’s fight.

Between the Seige and the Sky—Nara’s memoir. A year ago I befriended Nara, a young mom in Khan Yunis disabled from MS and pancreatic cancer. She just got put on the medical evacuation list, but we still have to fundraise for her kids.
Please consider purchasing her memoir.
