I think this senior gvt official doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Recent reports indicate that there are approx. 10,000 North Korean soldiers in the Russian military at the moment - we've taken a number of POWs, most of whom beg not to be repatriated to their mad king.
And yet South Korea is still mulling over whether to aid Ukraine.
We found, among other things, Canadians feel more threatened. When asked without any prompts, they cite the US as the greatest threat. Canadians trust, yes, academics more than anyone else we asked about, with military leaders next and the media dead last. #CDSNresearch
Jean-Christophe Boucher and I summarize polling the @cdsn.bsky.social conducted on Canadian defence spending and Canada-United States defence relations in Policy Magazine:

That explains a lot.
Forcing Ukraine to cede Crimea (and all of the Donbas?) is appeasement. Same as it's always been.

Canada, UK and France say that if Israel doesn’t halt its renewed offensive and restore aid to Gaza, ‘we will take further concrete actions in response. We oppose any attempt to expand settlements in the West Bank … We will not hesitate to take further action, including targeted sanctions.’
🚨 The Canadian Association of University Teachers has just advised against any non-essential travel to the United States.🚨
Was doing this anyway, but still shocking to see it officially in writing.

Le Monde reporting that a French scientist traveling to Houston to attend a conference was denied entry to US after a search of his phone & computer revealed messages critical of Trump's science cuts, "which [says CPB] conveyed hatred of Trump & could be qualified as terrorism". Computer confiscated
Fact is US is unreliable. It is alligning with Russia and other dictatorships and actively musing about annexing Canada. I don’t see this as a value judgment.
Agreed. This stupid back and forth is exhausting and a massive waste of time. But as you can see, I am at the “burn it all” phase and getting pretty pissed off at US behaviour 🤣.
We are not cancelling it… yet. Seems US wants to renegotiate everything… this is everything. Communicating uncertainty is very good. I would do this for the next two weeks… everytime they mention 51st state.
Hard disagree… I was always a supporter of F35, but you need to account for new information. US is unreliable or downright a national security threat. We need to assess this new developments and adjust. Staying the course is just wishful thinking.
This is about signaling. Good Stratcom… signal some idea, let Lockheed freak out and call Trump. Only way to change WH behaviour is through US.
Beyond the political dimension, the F35 could become another extorsion raquet. Do we trust the US to provide the upgrades or not remote/kill our planes?
If the world stops buying American weaponry, what happens to the US arms industry? They’re not going to be happy with Donald Trump, are they?

Worried about US interference in Canadian society?… we have some data on that. academic.oup.com/isq/article/...
Emmanuel Macron with the chiefs of staff of 34 allied free nations. The US is not invited.
US is medsing around the Ukrainian F16… maybe we need to cancel our F35 purchase. We can’t trust American platforms if we don’t have full control of it.
just taking tonight to really appreciate all these years of journalistic tut-tut-tutting about how over-the-top it was for anyone to focus on trump's affinity for russia and putin.
