Fiat Topolino parked on the street in Utrecht, Netherlands
The Fiat Topolino is a small two seat electric car that is classified as a moped and costs less than €10k. It has good range in city driving and charges in less than 4 hours from a standard wall plug.
JD Vance @Pete Hegseth if you think we should do it let's go. I just hate bailing Europe out again. 8:45 AM O Let's just make sure our messaging is tight here. And if there are things we can do upfront to minimize risk to Saudi oil facilities we should do it. 8:46 AM O Pete Hegseth VP: I fully share your loathing of く
Pete Hegseth VP: I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It's PATHETIC. But Mike is correct, we are the only ones on the planet (on our side of the ledger) who can do this. Nobody else even close. Question is timing. I feel like now is as good a time as any, given POTUS directive to reopen shipping lanes. I think we should go; but POTUS still retains 24 hours of decision space. 8:49 AM O SM SM As I heard it, the president was clear: green light, but we soon make clear to Egypt and Europe what we expect in return. We also need to figure out how to enforce such a requirement. EG, if Europe doesn't remunerate, then what? If the US successfully restores freedom of navigation at great cost there needs to be some further economic gain extracted in return.

If they can't be trusted any longer, we need to talk about US bases in Europe.

I barely used TikTok, but I have this weird superpower where I'm able to ask myself questions like "How would someone who is not me feel about this situation? How about 170 million not-me's?"
"I have never once used TikTok and hate it because I'm 39. Here's why the ban won't matter to anyone. I am very smart."
My last post on TikTok: the blasé attitude most of you have is just elder millennial identity politics.

Times like these prompt me to reflect on how my views have been so warped being a reporter in America. When Yoon Suk Yeol became president by just 200,000 votes in 2022, I braced for a long recount fight cuz I’d covered the 2020 recount fights in U.S. swing states.
I was so surprised when… 1/7
Joined @cnn.com live. Key takeaways:
1️⃣ President Yoon's declaration of Martial Law is not surprising—it has been building for some time.
2️⃣ Nonetheless, it marks a critical turning point in South Korea's democratic history.
3️⃣ Democratic stakeholders continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience.
I think it’s time to retire the “I didn’t have (…) on my bingo card!!!” saying as clearly we might think the game is bingo, but the world is playing something else entirely.

#BreakingNews #SouthKorea Martial law troops withdraw from the National Assembly following the passage of a resolution to lift martial law. In the meantime, a Ministry of Defense official reportedly states, "The Martial Law Command will remain in place until the President lifts martial law."
the cheer has morphed to "Arrest Yoon Sukyeol"
I have not seen the army since I arrived. When the riot police showed up they vanished. I heard there were tanks in Yongsan but I did not witness them myself.
and yes the crowd is calling for impeachment. the crowd was calling for it even when I emerged from the subway station.
It took only ~2.5 hrs for the National Assembly to gather a majority of members (190 of 300) and generate a unanimous vote (190 of 190) to vote down the emergency martial law. The law says the president "shall comply" with parliament's vote, but doesn't specify a time frame.
the crowd is a pretty even mix of young people and the older folks (mostly men) who would have been young during the dictatorship
I'm fucking blasted and hanging out in the weirdest scene because history happened at a deeply inconvenient hour. so it goes.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law” on Tuesday, accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.
