Dubois was on my shelf while I was writing my dissertation - and as I revised that into my first book.
Byrd is on my shelf while I work on a project related to Oklahomans and Haiti.
I am starting to think that there will be books that "stalk" me during different stages in my career. I seem to somehow acquire multiple copies of a singular book at one time.
In graduate school, it was Laurent Dubois's Avengers of the New World. Right now, it is Brandon Byrd's The Black Republic.
