Ploughland of the Mind: Soil and Soul YouTube video by Harper McAlpine Black

“A healthy mind is like living soil and is stratified into many fine layers, fine gradations. But Chadwick says the structure of our minds has collapsed. Our minds are compacted. ... [The intermediate Imaginal world] has been flattened, crushed, compacted under the weight of the historical mind. ”

Yes I've seen some good reviews. I appreciate Robert Macfarlane's work and perspective on language, and he also said good things about the book: "It's a magnificent work of scholarship & vision".

“For Iamblichus the cosmos was a living temple, a vast theophany. ... An essential element in every theurgic ritual ... was the correspondence between the objects used in the rite and their analogues in the soul: the outer objects, imbued with divine power, awakened correspondences within the soul.”

we could rise up rooted, like trees.

Instead we entangle ourselves
in knots of our own making
and struggle, lonely and confused.

Henry Corbin, in his book "Alone with the Alone, Creative Imagination in the Sufism of Ibn Arabi" (New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1998, p.170 & 172) writes: “If the mystic thus came to exemplify the Image of the Creative Feminine, we understand how Maryam could become its prototype and how, in one of the finest pages of his Mathnawi, Jalaluddin Rumi could substitute her for the mystic. The episode of the Annunciation now becomes one of the symbols verifying the maxim that he who knows himself knows his Lord: Essentially it is the ‘sophianity’ of the mystic’s being (typified by Maryam) which conditions his vision of the Angel, that is, which defines his capacity for theophanic vision, his capacity for the vision of a form in which the invisible and the sensible are conjoined, or
symbolize one another [...]

Because it is impossible to prove God, there is no other answer than to ‘make oneself capable of God.’ Indeed, as Jalaluddin Rumi also says, each of our eternal individualities is a word, a divine Word, emitted by the Breath of Divine Compassion. When this Word penetrates the mystic’s heart (as it penetrates Maryam through the Angel’s Breath), that is, when the ‘secret of his Lord’ unfolds to his consciousness, when divine inspiration invests his heart and soul, ‘his nature is such that there is born within him a spiritual Child (walad ma`nawī) having the breath of Christ which resuscitates the dead’.”

The puzzle for Democrats is how to separate "good" from "bad" billionaires. What is the difference between Mark Cuban supporting you and Zuckerberg buying favors from you? It's not a slam dunk, needs explaining.

Analyzes the lives, roles, and experiences of Viking women, highlighting their societal contributions through interdisciplinary perspectives. This edited volume brings together an international group of scholars to address the lives, roles, myths, mythology, and lived experiences of Viking women as well as the impacts of change on women during the turbulent period of the Viking Age. Through interdisciplinary perspectives, this is a book dedicated to the lesser-known aspects of women’s lives as active members of society. It provides an innovative way of bringing together work from archaeological, anthropological, historical, and literary perspectives to address questions about women in trade, in war, in magic, in the household and activities that provided women with power and respect in their communities.

Photograph of the late Marija Gimbutas, in traditional Lithuanian clothing and headdress, smiling and reclining in a chair. From the article “Marija Gimbutas: The Regeneratrix of Our Time”. Lithuanian-born writer, Rūta Žemčugovaitė, writes: “In the Nevada desert, Marija Gimbutas planted an apple tree, a symbol of her deep connection to her Lithuanian homeland. Despite the harsh climate, it flourished, much like her groundbreaking work in archaeology. Gimbutas revealed the ancient worship of the Great Goddess as a force of life, death, and renewal –not just fertility. Her intuitive, poetic approach reshaped history, proving the power of matriarchal societies. Gimbutas’ legacy, like the goddess, continues to thrive and transform. ... As much as Marija was a scientist and archaeo-mythologist, she also was an intuitive seer, a mediator between our ancestors and us, between the Great Goddess and the modern human psyche – not fully forgetting of the reverence and worship of the regeneratrix. Her legacy is fully alive, pulsing, and living, the same way is living the goddess, to whom Marija has devoted her life to truly understand and translate.”
