This is glitchy anyway. I either don’t need a jacket, or it’s going to snow.

Why Ryan Coogler Should Win Best Director for "Sinners" Ryan Coogler should win the Oscar on Sunday. Here's why.

“If SINNERS becomes the third movie by a Black filmmaker to win Best Picture but not Best Director, then we can’t pretend the director’s Blackness isn’t the main reason why,” writes @thirdmanmovies.bsky.social about why Ryan Coogler deserves the Oscar.

What part of, “I don’t like LLMs, find they create more work, and waste my time and energy” is hard for people to understand? This is not green eggs and ham. Stop offering me snake oil.

They’re Florsheim shoes. Order them in your proper size. He won’t know the difference. In fact, he’ll be so pleased with himself that he guessed the right size!

Why are they doing this to themselves? How are they *all* this stupid? Are they really this helpless without women?

In early 2025, someone pointed out that the first Trump cabinet had people whose background was living in/managing material reality, whereas this new cabinet was full of people who thought vibes were reality.

I bet Rex Tillerson knows how important the Strait of Hormuz is.

And where it is.

Been thinking about this thread a lot recently. It is one of the most correct reads of what’s unfolded. The Trump admin is doing untold damage and every step of it has been an unforced error on their part

It was going on one, two in the morning, and we were shooting what I felt was an important scene for me, when he makes an attempt to be quote-unquote straight, in a suit, and at the end of it he gets emotional and locks himself in the other room. And I felt like, I’m not getting what I want—I’m not happy with it. Mike was happy with it. He called me the next day and said, “I know you weren’t happy with the scene last night. Believe me, we wouldn’t have gone home if I had felt we weren’t getting it.” And then he sort of became my psychiatrist and said, “You find it difficult to be happy, don’t you? You find it difficult to enjoy things.” And I said, “Well, sometimes. Last night was about feeling too tired and not feeling I was reaching what I needed to reach for the scene.” He talked to me then about when he was making, I don’t know whether it was Virginia Woolf or The Graduate. He said, “I didn’t enjoy it for a second. I was worried about so many things.” And then he said, “You know, this is never going to happen again quite this way. You should try to allow yourself to enjoy this more. Take a minute a day, and then add a minute the next day, and another minute. Pretty soon, you’ll have hours of happiness.”

The Birdcage opened thirty years ago today, so in its honor, I want to share one of my favorite stories about Mike Nichols that didn't make it into my biography. This is from an interview I did with Nathan Lane.

It’s actually a substantive problem, just for a niche office. The guy who fails senators’ sons as a hobby doesn’t have that past. That’s a character that can’t exist, even in a story where privilege is a veneer.

The Holdovers. As an adjunct, the whole thing falls apart right at the moment it’s supposed to come together. (That’s not even petty. My petty objection is that he’s only up to the Peloponnesian War at Christmas break.)

I understand what these words mean when these words get put together but I don't understand how these words could possibly be together.

The US and Iran have obviously not been at war for 47 years, as regime propagandists tell us. What has been going on for 47 years is the Saudi-Iranian regional proxy war. So the propaganda defines us as a Saudi proxy state.

I want to quit my job because it’s being ruined by LLMs, but the jobs I’m qualified for are training LLMs or using them to “optimize research.”

I hate everything.
