On Monday the troubled world folded like a moth’s wings for a moment on a train journey. In a flash we read and held each other’s otherness. The woman was a refugee from Bosnia, coming to the UK in 1997. She told me how quick and surprising hate is. We agreed that to read James Baldwin might help.
