Protest sign from MN that says, βDEARLY BELOVED. WE ARE GATHERED HERE TODAY TODISMANTLE THIS THING CALLED ICE.β with a picture of Prince in the left hand lower corner.
10/10 ICE protest sign
"ICE OUT" on Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, as seen from my flight leaving MSP airport
The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isnβt just peaceful, itβs INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who wonβt be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols donβt turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.
This administration is cooked. Literally no one is scared of them.
aaaand we're back, of course.
SKOL MINNESOTA
WE HAVE MOUNTAINS OF ICE TO MELT
Adding that it's below 0 degrees FAHRENHEIT with an even lower wind chill in MN right now.
Paraphrasing a colleague, it must be pretty bad when the NY Times headlines aren't 'both-sides'. www.nytimes.com
ICE raids turn life into a daily terror for Minneapolis schoolkids: βThis is a generational traumaβ
Alex Pretti "used to tell people off when they made sexist comments to female physicians. He bought me coffee when I had a really bad day as an intern...I laughed alongside him daily. He made a point to teach medical residents without judgement, but with a smile on his face and a joke."
There were six or seven agents, trying to harm a man who looks unarmed and still they murdered him in broad daylight. These ICE agents are venal, incompetent, cowardly and this type of execution will keep on happening because they are an unchecked paramilitary force of scared men who crave power.
ICE kills another protestor: they must be abolished and everyone involved to the very top held accountable. www.startribune.com/ice-raids-mi...
A coworker took this from her apartment. I haven't seen a crowd this size before. Maybe the first Women's March? But it was much much warmer that day. ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA!
We cannot be more clear. Leave us the fuck alone.
If youβre wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, itβs because an eighteen-year-old who hasnβt done the reading, doesnβt look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than βbecause I think itβs in the Bibleβ can literally end your career
We're pleased to announce Prof Lila Abu-Lughod of Columbia University as this year's Juliet Mitchell lecturer. Join us 15 October 17:30 at the McCrum theater for her talk "Revisiting the Awkward Relationship of Feminism and Anthropology." Sign up here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-juliet...
More pics of Angel from Cambridge. One things that was special about her was one green eye, one half blue, half brown eye, but that's hard to capture in pictures.
My parents looked after her for 6 months while I was sorting things out overseas in Cambridge in 2013, they had a great time taking pics of her.
Angel in 2004 when I got her from the St Paul Humane Society!
Farewell to Angel, the best cat ever and my little buddy for over 20 years. We started and finished my PhD, my postdoc, and over a decade at Cambridge. She was 21 and loved the sunshine, sitting on my lap, sleeping on my head, and getting white fur all over my black clothes. More pics to come:
Your girls did it! Incredible.

Sisters not just cis-ters pink red and black design with fabulous women.
Love and solidarity to UK trans people today. Trans people exist, trans people have always existed and will always exist. Trans women are women and feminism without trans women is fascist feminism.
