Victoria is killing it, so many improvements for active transportation. Itβs a shame that Saanich is slowing down.

I usually prepare and practice my Senate speeches with care, in advance. THIS time, I spoke without notes, unprepared and impromptu, driven by a mix of passion and patriotism. The subject of debate was an amendment to Bill C-12. But I put it in a troubling Alberta context. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli

Why yβall should vote NO to amalgamation this fallβ¦
That would be awesome!
Pandora and Cook Street in Victoria, looking eastward.
You know how the eastbound Pandora bike lane weirdly terminates at Cook Street? That might be about to change. There's a motion before Council this week, by @davethompsonvic.bsky.social and @mattdellvictoria.bsky.social, to complete the work of connecting a two-way lane to Fort, Begbie, & Shelbourne
I just wrote a @theactionnetwork.bsky.social letter: Save Saanich's Active Transportation Budget from Major Cuts. Write one here: actionnetwork.org/letters/saan...
Thanks. I just sent a letter too.
No Amalgamation. Today, Victoria & Saanich support their own services. Post-amalgamation, Victoria will subsidize Saanich.

Back in 2017 Kelowna pre-approved quadplexes on a few hundred lots with fast approvals and pre-approved plans and got hundreds of homes.
It was a revolution for small builders who previously could only build single family homes.
Now they have released their new set of 12 pre-approved designs

It was published today.

This is important legislation and any politician not in favour deserves to be voted out next election.
There is no good reason to oppose this.
My column today: If we want neighbourhoods to be walkable and vibrant, people need to feel safe walking and biking. The 1970βs law allowing right turns on red lights prioritizes vehicles over safety. Half of business owners on this Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car.
In fact, it was 4%.
And the % of customers who who walked or cycled? 72%.

Watch this, and follow this guyβs campaign. Itβs really important.
Some ideas for improving road safety that can be implemented in US cities without modifying infrastructure:
β’ No cars moving through the intersection when pedestrians have a "walk" signal.
β’ No turn on red.
β’ 20 mph speed limit.
β’ Leading pedestrian interval for cyclists.
Others?
To the deluded #Alberta separatists, here's a dose of reality:

My question is why the media happily ran after every "flooding the zone with shit" play from MAGA Alberta while ignoring the obvious Donbas playbook being used in Alberta.
Donbas Danielle is not playing with fire.

Every few months we get someone new to the housing discourse misinterpret some statistics and get mislead into believing it's not a housing shortage.
Fortunately that idea falls apart simply by asking why some markets seem to be immune to financialization.
