New federal report shows tariffs are hurting every state that borders Canada A Federal Joint Economic Committee report shows exports to Canada are down 18%.

Tariffs on Canada have been in effect nearly a year now, and Maine businesses are struggling with higher equipment costs and tighter margins.

That hurts workers, families, and our local economy. It doesnโ€™t make sense.

That's no way to live a life in the wealthiest nation in human history. Mainersโ€”and all Americansโ€”deserve universal health care.

Competing health care plans fail in the Senate as ACA premium hikes loom The outcome was widely expected after Democrats and Republicans released dueling bills. Congress is under pressure to address health care costs before federal subsidies lapse at the end of the year.

Deeply disappointed but not surprised. It's like Republicans in D.C. want Americans mired in medical debt and uninsured.

Federal health care cuts mean Mainers will pay double, triple, or quadruple their normal health insurance premiums on the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

That's not freedom. That's highway robbery.

Small business owners in Maine facing huge spikes in ACA premiums Enhanced tax credits that help people afford marketplace health insurance plans are set to expire unless they are extended.

Mainers' freedom to be their own boss is under threat.

Mary Link, a small business owner whose premium is doubling, is considering going back to her corporate job just for health insurance.

Public hearings set for next week on CMP rate hike proposal The average Maine family would see their electric bill rise by about $35 a month over the five-year period, according to Maine Public Advocate Heather Sanborn.

I agree wholeheartedly with Maine's Public Advocate. This is an eye-popping proposal from CMP, and it deserves thorough oversight. The bottom line: Mainers simply cannot afford a $35 increase per month ($420/year) added to our electric bills.

From USDA data, we know over one in ten Maine families were food insecure in 2021-2023.

Those families deserve to be able to put food on the table, and I promise to fight every day to make that happen.

USDA cancels survey tracking how many Americans struggle to get enough food The Department of Agriculture said it will end a longstanding annual food insecurity survey. Experts say the move will obscure the effects of recent changes that will lead to people losing food aid.

Hunger does not go away, even if the data that shows us who is food insecure is no longer tracked by the USDA.

Yesterday, I joined Speaker Fecteau and Maine Legislators to urge both parties to come to the negotiation table with the health and well-being of Maine people in mind. You can read it below ๐Ÿ‘‡

But today, we face the immediate crisis at hand: the mediation process between one of Maineโ€™s largest healthcare providers and one of our countryโ€™s largest insurance companies.

Mainersโ€™ ability to lead healthy lives, see the doctors they know and trust, and find affordable care should be guaranteed in this country. Health care is considered a human right in nearly every other developed nation in the world. The U.S. should be no different.

No Mainer should have to deal with this uncertainty. No Mainer should have to face the possibility of changing their long-term care plan to a new hospital network or drive hours to receive medical care.

What to know as the Northern Light and Anthem contract deadline nears While thereโ€™s still a chance for an agreement to keep Northern Light services in Anthemโ€™s network, thereโ€™s no guarantee despite the high stakes for both sides.

Right now, the health coverage of 30,000 Mainers remains in limbo as Anthem and Northern Light Health approach their contract negotiation deadline โ€” September 30.

Maine reproductive health care providers say freezing Title X funding will harm patients Title X supports reproductive and preventative health care for people with low incomes, including birth control, cancer screenings, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

Fewer Mainers will receive cancer screenings and family planning services if the withholding of these funds is allowed to stand.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Mainers deserve better than this.
