Disguised Pyra and Nia heart to heart in Torigoth drawing for Xenoblade Chronicles 2's anniversary. They are on a rooftop over looking the area near the port, where a couple of buildings are above the hangars beneath. In the background, is the Gormott Titan and further off is the World Tree. The idea here was to make a random slab of Torigoth rather than accurately depict it much like my Leftherian Archipelago drawing from two years ago. Even the name of ED's song is Antinomy - a fundamental, apparently unresolvable contradiction. An Antinomic Dual in 2B and 9S.

And she's left all alone to be crushed by the endless cycle of stopping him from finding out the true nature of Project YoRHa.

Which... then, the whole ED ends with a re-emphasis of the Project being a Black Box of its own, one whose contents no one can be allowed to observe clearly.

Because, ultimately, one of the most significant aspects of Automata *is* that it's a story of suppressed love between them. And just before she reaches him, he disappears; of course, the only way 2B can be free enough to really consider what she feels for him is when he's been executed by her.

In other words, she sees clearly that fulfilling the conditions of her mission means executing 9S. So 2B is unbound from the confines of emotional suppression, and starts running after 9S - who's still blindfolded because he's still operating as a Scanner, gathering data he shouldn't have access to.

Into the both of them in a wheat field, where the blindfold comes off of 2B - being unchained from the limitations of YoRHa. And the first thing she sees is that flying white bird which could be either freedom or a knowing precursor to what 9S' ultimate fate is bound to be.

And the way it transitions out of the shot is with that silent clenched fist from 2B - all of her suppressed emotional damage, the quite literally deteriorating state of her internal personal data from having to play Executioner to someone she ultimately just wants to be able to love and be with.

Of course, they're wearing their blindfolds, which at various points is both *being* blind to the truth and signifies their compliance with making themselves devoid of emotion - or at least trying to be, even as they explore, try to understand, and imitate various aspects of humanity.

It starts with the crystal, which to me seems to represent the YoRHa Project - with the truth needing to be kept under lock and key - while then moving to 2B and 9S draped in the cold, rigid tones of the official regulations they have to adhere to. Prohibited emotions, no opposition to Command.

Been thinking about the 2B characterization that Short Story Long expands on again because of a friend's playthrough of the game, and how it informs the imagery of things like the anime's first ED, just because it's really nice

People have their debates on Wiinoblade style vs XBDE style, but I think I upset everyone, because my favorite look for Xenoblade 1 characters is neither. It's actually the XB2 Tanaka look, and I'm not joking! If it was up to me, Xenoblade DE would have looked exactly like this!

Both versions of Phos are here, the first on the right with their mint-green hair and eyes, as well as their standard black outfit and shoes without socks. They are looking at the viewer with a cheery smile, lifting in the sky behind the Moon on Earth. Surrounding Phos is a bunch of flowers and grass blown from the wind, as well as the clouds, even given a hairband of flowers (likely made by Red Beryl). The Moon behind is white, almost the same color as the Gems. The Phos on the left is their Post-Moon look, complete with the ultramarine blue head of Lapis Lazuli, the Agate legs of Aculeatus, the arms of liquid gold alloy, and the pearl eye granted by Aechmea. Along with all the new parts of their body, Phos is given a new outfit given by the Lunarians with sheer sleeves and pearl heels. They are looking at the viewer with gold tears in their one visible eye, showing that they are suffering. Surrounding Phos are all the different gems behind the Moon in space. The moon is red in this reflection of the drawing, implying a path of suffering and vengeance. In the far background, you can find Phos’ home on planet Earth. Close enough with Phos, Happy Gold Week! XD I had a lot of fun with this one

I really feel like the Xenoblade games would lose a lot of their unique gameplay feel if they moved away from the combat style they have now. To me, XB battle systems stands out a lot next to other RPGs, and I've never once understood the appeal of just removing that aspect of the series

Reading through Miéville's The City & The City has been such a treat, especially for someone that loves Disco Elysium. The inspiration is obvious, but also the concept of crosshatched twin cities where the citizens of each have to "unsee" the other is really interesting and pretty direct commentary

Very much one of my favorite stories I've ever experienced, whether in its game form, anime, or novelizations. I love DrakeNieR about as much as the Xeno games, and Automata in particular is just... so special. Absolutely wonderful experience that never leaves my mind
