"How do oil and gas replace coal?"
And
"I'm not being naive I'm being factual"
You are not serious. Have a good day.
Dancing for architecture?
The genesis of this is about energy dependence on the Persian Gulf/strait of hormuz. Oil and gas.
Oil and gas, and nuclear replace coal. The cheaper those are the less coal we use. Energy comes through the Gulf, I'm not sure if you're being intentionally naive.
The oil lobby wrote/staffed the US nuclear energy policy.
Every power plant in the US that burns oil, coal, natural gas.. is a massive amount of 'oil'.
Having a grid that's far less dependent on oil means you can build out a military that isn't the biggest in the world but immediately humbled when when diesel prices hit $6/gal
Can we ween ourselves off oil down to a small amount of our current consumption? Would nuclear power plants replace a lot of our consumption?
The reason nuclear powerplants are so expensive is because of the oil lobby. And most of that expense is because old nuclear tech was pressurized reactors, we don't have to build pressurized containment anymore.
Air travel isn't a necessity. That's a luxury. Nuclear power can run trains, ships, and all municipal, commercial and industrial. Sorry about your Harley.
It's the cleanest, and safest power on the planet and the only reason it isn't ubiquitous is digging and trading oil makes far more money.
