The internet makes it so easy to forget about the human on the other side of our screen. ALL human beings deserving of dignity, respect, and due process. If you can’t see this - ALL of this - for the injustice and immoral violence that it is then you are on the wrong side of history.
His death is now going to play on loop - a loop of torture for all to interpret and judge and condemn and praise and mourn. I hurt for the loved ones who now have the death of their father, husband, and friend eternally repeating on screens across the world and the growing storm approaching.
When we engage in dehumanizing language and behavior it’s easy to see it as an ‘us versus them’. It’s easy to forget the humanity of strangers.
I hurt today for the tax funded murder of a man who could have been my own loved one, but who WAS absolutely someone’s loved one.

I doubt the bigoted politicians care about semantics. We know it’s really just the things that make THEM uncomfortable. It’s easier to target minority groups than deal with any real problems.
There’s always something. I know I can’t retire here, but I feel terrible leaving kids who really need a safe place.
It’s dystopian for sure. I’m setting up a first aid kid and training my students on how to administer their own first aid. And I’m calling any trans students by their last name to avoid deadnaming them. All in the name of ‘parents rights’ my ass.

The list of things inappropriate to include in art is now: Guns, drugs, alcohol, gang signs, gore, violence, and now, sexual or gender identity.
So now for open house I have to hide the artwork of any child who chose to incorporate their identity in their ‘about me’ artworks. Fuck Texas.
The new Texas education laws have me really crashing out.
I can’t call students anything but their legal name (including nicknames).
I can’t give them bandages when they are bleeding. I can’t with this state.
I just want to teach art and let kids be themselves.
