Drug Overdose Deaths Plummeted in 2024, C.D.C. Reports

“Deaths declined in all major categories of drug use, stimulants as well as opioids, dropping in every state but two. Nationwide, drug fatalities plunged nearly 27 percent.”

We must continue to invest in addiction & mental health treatment!

I wouldn't be out there if I didn't believe that America can come through this moment, if each of us is prepared to play our role in demanding and delivering a better future.

Was invited to CA to review an academic program. Came back to Ohio to learn we are now 2 steps away from banning tenure, banning collective bargaining & strikes for academics, and mandating that universities cannot hold intellectual positions on topics the legislature deems controversial. 🧪

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Per Dr Atul Gawande, ex USAID: “All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments – terminated.”

There are no words that sufficiently describe this level of cruelty and sadism.

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

…as a psychotherapist I do not by any means try to deliver my patients from fear. Rather, I lead them to the reason for their fear, and then it becomes clear that it is justified. ~Carl Jung, Letters Vol. 1, Page 399.

If we all find 100 posts to like every day, engagement and good will on @bsky.app grows exponentially.

Is it worth a few minutes to make the platform stronger ?

Correct! Try bluffing that you are from Idaho, the hit rate for the first response being a single word “potatoes” is incredibly high. Just obscure enough to be both commonly known but interesting enough to share spontaneously.

Women still take on the majority of the mental load for holidays.

How do we fix this???

Seems like a focused strategy. What do you typically say for prompt engineering to get the quality of data and right level of detail you are looking for?

Do you have a saved prompt that you reuse?

I use a few GPTs that have local knowledge and are preprogrammed for specific output.
