Stop Calling Stakes High or Low: Call them Near or Far Instead This Saturday I’m reading at Babylon Salon in SF! You can still get a signed personalized copy of Lessons in Magic and Disaster, my novel about a trans witch...

"I would like to throw the concept of low stakes and high stakes into the nearest volcano and never speak of these concepts again. Rather, I would like to talk about stakes that are near or far."

β€˜Hey’ came before β€˜hi,’ and β€˜hi' came before β€˜hello.’

β€˜Hi’ is most likely a variant of β€˜hey.’

β€˜Hello’ is not related to either.

Goodbye.

We are aware of recent reports regarding targeted phishing attacks that have resulted in account takeovers of some Signal users, including government officials and journalists. We take this very seriously. 1/7

Getting pretty exhausted by AI companies’ whole business model being to force people to opt out instead of inviting them to opt in. If AI was so inevitable and so helpful to everyone, would all of these companies have to force their AI features it on users?

Oh, do romance readers read too much? Of the wrong kind of books, you say? In the wrong kind of language, you say? Are they too easy, too sexy, too fun, too silly? And we’re pretending this is not The argument that people have made against romance since (checks library) 1785?

They also do not want to admit this, but "abolish ICE" and "let people have abortions" are in fact mainstream stances.

btw about that pixar thing, the reason why these people think having a conversation about gay people with kids is difficult is because they don't know a way to say to their kid "gay people are normal but you are not allowed to be one" without sounding like a bigot (there is a reason for that)

I spent a lot of time deliberating over a reply. Then I stopped. I blocked them instead. Some fundamental values aren't worth arguing over, because they aren't up for debate.

Also I'm not in high school,
this isn't speech class,
and I don't fucking care.

i had a great conversation with this reporter and overall feel this is a really balanced piece exploring what might be going on with this shift to "first person or bust" that has taken over romance.
