It's the "pseudo-reasonable" tone of bigots that always gets me. It reminds me of someone leaving an inflammatory comment that ended "to be fair, I hate all LGBT people and stuff so this isn't personal." Uh, that doesn't make it better.

Absolutely! And there is great comedy that doesn't focus on that. It serves a different purpose and like you said, there's space for both and we need both :)

Totally get that view! Personally, I think it can have its place when it comes to protesting unfair regimes. A lot of comedy in Apartheid-era SA was aimed at the racist and oppressive government.

Exactly! If one character does it, it also gives insight into the character and their interaction with the world. When everyone does it, it runs the risk of the characters feeling like flat mouthpieces for the writer's humor. Or a get-out-of-jail card for weaker narrative elements.

Good comedy is about punching up (if the comedian is looking for a target.) It always has been.

Oh yeah, so many things are curable or at least treatable. But most of us can't afford it. Medical miracles are often put on a high shelf available only to the wealthy and the lucky.

Agreed! The algorithm there is designed to essentially bury non-verified accounts and many posts with queer, POC or liberal content. The place has been reworked into a soap box for bigots.

However, to make Bluesky work, people need to not only come here but also engage with artists, creators etc.
