The CSMB Board meeting was held December 5 2025. Board members discussed the work of our Society and planned for activities for the new year.
We don't yet know if the CSMB's future includes tote bags, but rest assured, tote bags were discussed EXTENSIVELY. 🤣

Congratulations to Dr. Aaron Schimmer, winner of the 2025 Canadian Science Publishing Senior Investigator Award. Dr. Schimmer is the Director of Research, a Senior Scientist and a Staff Physician at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, Toronto.
Dr. P. Lynne Howell, winner of the 2025 CSMB Jeanne Manery-Fisher Memorial award. Dr. Howell is a Senior Scientist in the Program in Molecular Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children and a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Toronto.
Congratulations to Dr. Heather E. McFarlane, winner of the 2025 CSMB New Investigator award. Dr. McFarlane is Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair in Plant Cell Biology at the University of Toronto. She studies plant cell wall synthesis, secretion, signaling, and remodeling.

Introducing Dr. Jan Rainey - 2025 CSMB Fellow. Dr. Jan Rainey is Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University.
Introducing Dr. John Orlowski - 2025 CSMB Fellow. He is a Distinguished James McGill Professor and former Chair of the Department of Physiology at McGill University.
She is an accomplished scholar-activist and public intellectual in Canada, especially with respect to the integration of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion into research cultures.
Introducing Dr. Imogen Coe - 2025 CSMB Fellow. She is Professor of Chemistry and Biology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and an affiliate scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She is an active researcher and academic leader. She served as CSMB President 2020-2022.

Yesterday, the 2025 CSMB-PRinCE joint meeting in Ottawa wrapped up. It was a great conference with exciting talks from both trainees and PIs. We definitely learned a lot! The future of molecular biosciences in Canada is bright!
