Honored to share this Neuron interview in which I discuss my childhood, getting a PhD, and RNN reverse engineering and its application to brain data. I also talked about my industry/academic life.

Me holding the first copies of Elusive Cures
Elusive Cures is my first book. I was surprised by how much was required to make it happen (beyond writing it). If you're curious, here's the who and how behind it ... π§΅

(7/26) The most surprising phenomenology happens after input cessation at tβ₯0: neurons continue oscillating long after stimulation ends, with lifetimes exceeding any intrinsic system timescale, including the plasticity forgetting timescale, by an order of magnitude (panel iii).

The implication was the latter; that consciousness required biology. Therefore silicon consciousness was not viable.
Again, I was picking up an undertone and really hoping @dlbarack.bsky.social can shed light here, as he swims in these waters regularly and I was merely a guest.

On a related (perhaps different?) note, at the SNAP philosophy of neuro meeting, there was an undercurrent of thought that consciousness required biology. This really confused me because it felt a bit like βwe need bio-magicβ for consciousness.
What am I missing?

Finally, a book that combines early childhood trauma with neural networks and AI. Just what the field was missing.

Coming March 17, 2026!
Just got my advance copy of Emergence β a memoir about growing up in group homes and somehow ending up in neuroscience and AI. Itβs personal, itβs scientific, and itβs been a wild thing to write. Grateful and excited to share it soon.

But what if the murmuration does "compute-like" things, such as temporarily hold static (low-dimensional) state or transition along a temporarily constructed state diagram?

Elusive Cures
A neuroscientistβs bold proposal for tackling one of the greatest challenges of our timeβbrain and mental illnesses
30 days to the launch of Elusive Cures! I learned so much writing it, and I want to share it.
For the next 30 days, I'll post brain & mind research breakthroughs on odd days, and highlight unmet needs on even ones. #ElusiveCures30
