In this preprint, I argue that cognitive understanding is a functional coordination pattern —analogous to swimming— based on a complex systems, coordination dynamics, affordances, and (now also) constraints perspective.

I want to conduct semi-structured interviews w parents of children who undergo long term medical treatment (e.g. for clubfoot, hip dysplasia) about their experiences with treatment, HC interactions and the child’s cognitive, emotional-social and motor dev.

Cutting English Psychology bachelor programs in many Dutch universities would be a huge, unnecessary, loss.
We need to stand up for science. And currently for Psychological science in particular.
Understanding why people do the things they do could not be more urgent.
Four large Dutch universities, including Leiden University where I work, have decided to throw international psychology bachelor programs under the bus in an effort to appease the rightwing government.

I think my struggle is that these papers seem more CogSci-based, while the course is about child rearing and education; about the "real-life" development of difficulties and interventions in these areas from a CDS/DST perspective
What is your favorite chapter/paper for explaining complex dynamic systems theory to ~3rd year (Developmental) Psychology students?

Something that comes close is this introduction chapter of a book by De Ruiter et al. (2019) on Psychosocial development in adolescence : insights from the dynamic systems approach.
But I would rather include a standalone paper which is less about adolescence.

Part of my struggle is that the course focusses on development, child rearing and education, with implications for practice which stem from a complexity/DST perspective. Many of the sources seem CogSci-based, which seems less relevant for the course.
