question for the room: how did you type on the internet in 2008/2009? were you a proper caser? did you forgo grammar? did you have a typing quirk?
I honestly don't think I did but I think I'm in the minority. I think I tried to write regular sentences for the most part with proper casing. I didn't even lol for a long time. Just haha. It's kind of hard to remember.
John Oliver's segment about trans athletes is a must watch for anyone who genuinely has "concerns" (and isn't just using that as cover for bigotry) www.readtpa.com/p/send-this-...
open question for the room: how were you using the internet in 2008?
I was writing and editing for friends on DeviantArt, using the Twilight chat room on Stephanie Meyers website (lol), listening to podcasts, and playing City of Heroes with my mom.
Goofy, the Disney character.

Like I really thought that when I was 50 the kids were gonna be getting iBall implanted in their retinas and that was gonna be my line in the sand.
We're not even doing anything cool to boil the oceans.
That's legit
I honestly figured it was going to be implanted tech that was going to leave me behind. I didn't anticipate that everyone I knew would clamour to boil the oceans so we could all spend our time proofreading generated code all day.
Working in tech and having what feels like every single one of my coworkers using AI makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. I don't want to use AI IDEs and I don't want to use chat GPT to summarize my notes. I don't fucking get it.
I want to talk about my move from Substack to Ghost for a second, and what it's been like working with a nonprofit tech company that actually lives its values.
Especially if you're a writer still on Subtack, please read. 1/x
First of all, about the org: They are a nonprofit, I just met employee +
I fear the caffeine will win but hope the Magnesium will.
What are we talking? Green tea or black tea?
I have a friend that made a savory oatmeal with miso. I was always curious but oatmeal just seems like it's supposed to be sweet to me.
Like I get it that a thinner oatmeal is not that far from congee or something but... I haven't brought myself to try it. It never seems like the right time.
Why didn't they get up and walk out with him?! What good does it do to sit there and listen to that man talk.
I can't. I cannot.
Reposting with grouping by state. Time to make some calls.
The 10 Democrats who voted to censure Green are Reps:
Ami Bera - CA

Laura Gillen - NY
Tom Suozzi - NY
Marcy Kaptur - OH
Chrissy Houlahan - PA
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez - WA
Why would the person behind the counter care what it was before... Do you just wanna hear yourself talk? Go start a podcast or something.
Damn.
I remember trying to go whole days just drinking a little juice because my friend said she did it. Thinking I was so disciplined and so productive, then devastated when I caved and ate real food.
What teenage girl didn't dabble in eating disorders?

Everyone knows someone on Medicaid, on CHIP, who has survived or lost someone to cancer.
Why are they cutting funding to cancer research? Why are our parents and grandparents at risk? Why does the burden of social security fall on us and not the billionaires? 5/
We have to stop attacking each other.
No one is perfect. No one can pass all the purity testing.
We have to agree on some basic goals and move forward with the best we have. 7/
Why is Medicaid, Social Security, and cancer research at risk? Why did they fire the people that tell us when hurricanes are coming, but they're going to find money give Starlink a government contract? How will this affect them tomorrow? 6/
The Dems do not have the messaging and propaganda machine the right has.
It is on us to break down the effects of the chaos in simple digestible terms and get it in front of those in our communities.
I don't think this is how it *should* be but it is. 4/
If we can organize an effort to get republican voters in Republican held districts to call their reps and get them scared for reelection, that's better than continuing to call Dems who are already voting the way they should. 3/
The Oval Office is bullying our congresspeople with threats of bankrolling opponents to primary them.
All our reps need to be more scared of us than they are of them. It needs to be, I MIGHT lose my primary but if I don't vote for my constituents I WILL lose my seat. 2/
I met with my Congressional Representatives this past weekend and got some really candid responses. I'd like to share my main takeaways from the experience. 1/
