tldr: howdy predates howdeedo by at least a couple hundred years by most estimates

the most popular usage of howdeedo that i’m aware of is in jamaican use where it’s still quite common among elder gen X and older even to this day

there were multiple convergences upon “howdy”, and you can see the euro-english route on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howdy where they trace the old english “how do ye” straight to howdy. the americanized backtrack to “how do you do” and again back to howdy is very contested, almost state by state 😂

almost. before other contractions “howdeedoodee” (spelled various ways) was the norm, for a good long stint. and many directly shortened that to “howdy”. etymology is fun!
