Spiders, inverts, botany, birds, wine, beer, food, pottery, aircraft. Not necessarily in that order. See @andydouglas1967-IT.bsky.social for IT/Computer Science stuff. West Norfolk and South Northamptonshire.

One to look forward to. Most are still new to me, so lots of fun to be had.

Thanks - it's funny, I knew what it was as soon as I saw it, probably because I'd seen it on Norfolk Moths, or one of Trevor Pendleton's videos. Never had it here before tho. Learnt a lot yesterday - including about the antennae - had never heard of pectinate antennae, just feathered.

Thanks - I've never seen Lead-coloured - maybe it'll turn up one day. But I've noted the pointed/rounded edges for next time. To be honest the variability caught me out a bit and it was only from looking in the book that I realised they were all the same.

Thanks - I've recorded them all as Clouded Drab.

A Hebrew Character moth

Dotted Chestnut. The book says that doesn't occur here in West Norfolk but I can't see that it's anything else.

Too cold and blowy but a few moths came to the light. I think all these are Clouded Drab, unless maybe one is Lead-coloured Drab? One seems unduly sparkly and another quite colourful. #TeamMoth

Exciting to see a bucket-list spider while in Mexico!

An Ogre-faced Spider that I think must be an Asianopis sp. it also looks like there might only be one species present in Mexico? If that is the case this should be Asianopis aurita.

From the Cut Off Channel, some things coming through. Lesser Celandine and I think, Common Whitlow Grass - very tiny flower, I think you can see bifurcated petals in the second photo.

We just cut off rosettes and potted them. Saw Monty do it that way. Again, we did it because we left the plant out too late, winter 2024, but it survived that time. Winter 2025, it didn't.

A garden round up. A moth and a moth fly. Think the moth might be an Early Reveller, Diurnea fagella, which is quite nice. Didn't even know there was a party?

Been up East Winch for a wander. No kit, just camera. Nothing to see - they’ve grubbed up a lot of Gorse - not as wet as I’d expected but squelchy in places.

We took a load of cuttings that worked really well, but mum gave them all away. Then we left the plant in the frost and it rotted. I’ve ordered a smelly one and a couple of different ones. They’re difficult to find.

Ordered some Aeoniums for mum from Cotswold Garden Flowers in Evesham, on-line. Assumed they were a big shop - but just a small nursery. Rang to change postage and were brilliant, they were discussing my order as I rang! Like places like that.

From the Collembola AIDGAP key: "With a pooter it is preferable to provide suction from a rubber pipette bulb... Hurd (1954) accidentally infected his nasal sinus with eggs of a species of Isotoma... and passed about 50 live Collembola from his nose some two months later. It made him quite poorly" 🫣

Yes I should have gone from net to glass tube but didn’t have one handy. Will know in future.

Thanks - I'll give that a try. I should have used a smaller pot too as I couldn't see it with an eye piece. Thankfully the Norfolk Moths website had it in it's list.

Smalll Quaker?

Smalll Quaker?

Hemlock Moth - a micro.

Hemlock Moth - a micro.

Two more from last night. I think Small Quaker, and Hemlock Moth. I put the micro in the fridge to photograph this morning, but when I opened the pot it flew away immediately. So that doesn't work. #TeamMoth

When I say chilled I don't mean 'Hey, far out man' type of chilled, I mean frozen to the core. Hurry up, warmer weather.
