"Elective" also doesn't mean purely cosmetic, either. People sometimes regret e.g. knee replacements and back surgeries, at much higher rate than transition regret! People can regret lifesaving heart & cancer treatments!

I was in terminal egg stage when it was released and I deliberately steered clear of it until after I started transitioning because I knew I wasn't going to be able to handle it (which probably should have told me something, honestly...)
