Krazy Legs Kafka is the Giants' head coach now. What a time to be alive. #GoCats
Rereading LoTR for the first time in a few years. Just made it through Moria. Shocking that Moria has about 40 pages. The Balrog? A handful. The Watcher in the Water β 2 pages. Thatβs the genius. Things that are so iconic need just a brief moment to gain that memorable status.
As #Tolkien became professor of Anglo-Saxon in Oxford century ago, the cityβs Morris Motors became Britainβs biggest car maker. There's a certain inevitability he would flourish a poison pen on the topic. I review THE BOVADIUM FRAGMENTS in today's Times. www.thetimes.com/culture/book...
This is a stupid and bad article.
Iβm new to the game too β only level 11. Minor advice β donβt worry about which classes are basic or advanced. Beornings are βadvancedβ but Iβve found them easy. And donβt worry too much about every side quest. There are too many to worry about them all. Unless you like finding handkerchiefs.
A beat-up copy of βThe Atlas of Middle Earthβ (1981 edition) from my public library.
Iβm reading Fonstadβs βThe Atlas of Middle Earthβ for the first time and I canβt remember when I loved a book about Tolkienβs works so much. Thank you, public library.
Tom Bombadil isnβt part of Middle-earthβs timeline
Middle-earth is part of his. π
So, basically Houston.
Had a moment of anxiety today. There was a screen in the background with Rings of Power on. Queued up the amazing soundtrack by @bearmccreary.bsky.social on my phone β now everything is well and calm again.
A snowy pathway between buildings.
A squirrel sitting in a snow-covered tree.
Way more snow in Houston than there should be.
Iβm excited to be going. Been listening to the podcast for years. Hope to say hi in KC.
As a decent human β I wish you the best of luck. As a Houstonian β eh, I get it.
Great news! This will be a benefit to me when I retire too since I worked a regular job, taught in public schools and now teach in a private school.
Now that films released to hold on to Tolkien adaptation rights are back in the public consciousness, I'm reminded of this first adaptation of The Hobbit (1966)
Our chair @shaungunner.bsky.social gives us his thoughts on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. What do you think? Do you agree with him? #LOTR #Tolkien www.tolkiensociety.org/blog/2024/12...
βThe problem of America continues to bother Tolkien into old age.β Text from a book.
Same, Professor, same. Still bothers me today.
Attend Westmoot. Maybe take a for-credit Tolkien class at Signum University. Perhaps another Tolkien-themed tattoo.
Canβt talk. About to watch War of the Rohirrim.
Have a theory you want to share with other Tolkien fans? Want to lead a discussion or an activity with people as avid about Tolkien as you? Want to share your Tolkien art? This is your chance! The #Westmoot call for proposals is open now! westmoot.org
Even now (like this week) the nail still falls off from time to time. It never grew back right and there is sometimes pain. No workersβ comp for the incident. It may be a permanent injury. One of the many reasons Iβm no longer teaching in public schools.
In early 2020, I was teaching students with behavior disabilities. One assaulted me. When admin came, the student said I assaulted them. I had scratches on my face, bruises on arm/torso and bone bruise in toe. They had nothing. Admin sent me out on investigation. They faced no consequence.
Less than a week. So very excited. Tolkien via animation (Rankin-Bass Hobbit) was my first exposure to the works of the Professor.

Registering for this tonight. Thrilled to be going to the first ever Westmoot.
Thanks for the reminder. Registering tonight!

I like to think of myself as a Samwise β loyal, caring, courageous when needed. But I know in my heart that Iβm a Denethor II, because, boy, do I like to house some cherry tomatoes in the worst way possible.
Had the chance to take part in this yesterday. What an amazing project to capture what #Tolkien means to thousands of readers and fans.

That is one key piece of the legendarium that I still havenβt read β now o want to more than ever. And Sara Brown was an amazing instructor for my short-lived attempt at Signum classes.
