I just had this exact same thought… I don’t have the fortitude, though it’d be a good cry.
“i want back my rocking chairs, / solipsist sunsets, / & coastal jungle sounds...”
A poem by Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered by ICE earlier today.

I can tell it’s fall because I’m once again contemplating getting bangs and writing a memoir.
Check out the “Remembering the Purple One” exhibit featuring display windows on both the first floor and skyway level at LaSalle Plaza. Brought to life by Hennepin Arts working with Rich Benson and @slingshotannie.bsky.social
Beautiful piece, Anil.
I wrote up a little bit more about how Prince took some inspiration from Redford & Streisand in "The Way We Were", and then how that led to a fun conversation with him about intellectual property. (There's a little gift for you at the bottom of this post, too.) www.anildash.com/2025/09/17/a...
Kyle I will never forget you charging my phone, feeding me snacks and sitting next to me while I did all those interviews on the lawn outside Paisley. What a surreal, blurry, awful day.
Anyone looking for tickets to Martha Wainright at the Hook and Ladder on Tuesday? (She’s playing her debut album for its 20th anniversary!) I bought front row tickets last fall before realizing I would be out of town. Sad for me, maybe happy for someone else?
Music author and journalist Andrea Swensson will spin for @recordstoreday.bsky.social shoppers at 4:00pm April 12th! Andrea's DJ set will include songs from Cornbread Harris' Deeper Blues release, out on Andrea's label, @slingshotannie.bsky.social Records.

Yes, oddly enough I did know this. That feels like a million years ago!
Watching Love is Blind (for the local angle, obvy) and there is frankly nothing more Minneapolis than having social media and group chat gossip torpedo everyone’s relationships.
If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.
I know the pendulum always swings, the arc of justice is long, etc etc, but there is something soul-deflating about companies dropping their DEI initiatives in the blink of an eye. All those hollow promises being eagerly fed into the shredder. How soon before they pretend 2020 didn’t even happen?
Last night I saw some live music for the first time in ages (thank you @thecurrent.org for the Micro Show) and I had so many thoughts and feelings and afterwards I talked to the artist (Leif Vollebekk) and we nerded out about Prince and cried and damn—I really really needed a night like that.
Just thinking about Prince hanging out at his Kiowa Trail house in the early ‘80s, eating cake and watching Eraserhead on repeat while dreaming up the songs for 1999.
This excellent list includes @slingshotannie.bsky.social 's DEEPER BLUES!
In October I devoured @slingshotannie.bsky.social's great book on Cornbread Harris, a cult hero of the Minneapolis sound who upstaged Elvis and fathered one of the greatest musicians to come from the Twin Cities. She put this collection together, too cornbreadharris.bandcamp.com/album/anthol...
The latest cover of Hennepin History magazine, which features bluesman Cornbread Harris, a nonagenarian with a warm smile, wearing a suit with a piano tie, sitting in a red velvet chair. The cover line reads “the Father of the Minneapolis Sound. Meet Cornbread Harris, who put Minneapolis Music on the map.”
I love my job as a freelancer. This year I picked up a gig as freelance editor-in-chief of Hennepin History, a publication of the Hennepin History Museum, which comes out twice yearly. This cover! Thank you to @slingshotannie.bsky.social for sharing a poignant excerpt for our latest issue. . .
Also, apologies to everyone on here who followed me for music news. My online “brand” is now a tired mom who goes out maybe once a month, writes books, and spends the rest of her time with very young children and/or a 97-year-old blues musician. It’s a vibe.
I swear half of these weaning tips were also on the brochure I got when I quit smoking cigs. Sorry, baby, your primary source of comfort is unavailable, have you tried walking around the block or calling your grandmother?
Don’t worry, I didn’t do it! 😅
Aww, that’s great. I hope it brings you joy.
I released two books this year and now I am experiencing a creative-emotional crash so severe that it has me staring out the window and wondering, is it time … could it be just the occasion… to get bangs?
Ohhhhh 💜

I would pay good money for a cookbook called “This is What You’re Eating” that gives me a shopping list and a daily menu and walks me through how to cook each thing in the easiest possible way. I don’t mind cooking but I’ve had about enough of choosing three meals a day. Enough!
YES I AM! 💜💜
