"The stigma the government and media has built around those on welfare is all a part of the system. They've made sure that whatever they do to us the general public won't have sympathy or empathy."
Labor is in their 2nd term now. If they act like they've earned some good will, they haven't.
The system During my time in advocacy I often speak to people who are doing academic work about poverty. I was once asked why those of us in poverty do not trust the system, and it's an easy question to answer. Robodebt Robodebt isnt the only reason but it encapsulates everything wrong with the system that those of us constantly fight against. From the start it was welfare advocates that raised the red flag that there was something wrong. As more people came forward to them rather then the system that was causing harm. As welfare advocates on twitter Asher Wolf and Lyndsay Jackson and many others started speaking out they were constantly ignored by government They set up the βnot my debtβ website and helped people navigate a system that was determined to cause harm
"We know that the powerful will never be held accountable because they've built and protected this system. The overall system has been built to punish the poor and protect the powerful and it's still happening"

The Albanese government cannot pretend to care about poor people while it continues to force people to live in poverty, refuse to act on Robodebt royal commission recommendations, and inflict millions of penalties a year β many unlawful β on people with compulsory activities.
In the present context, however, of an investigation into allegations of corrupt conduct, we are not so much concerned with Diceyan theory of ministerial accountability and Cabinet solidarity as with personal obligations of honesty and good faith. Thus, although Mr Morrison may have been responsible to Cabinet for the failings of DSS β in particular for DSSβ failings in not preventing the shortcomings of the NPP and checklist β it by no means necessarily follows that Mr Morrison was personally at fault for not detecting the failings of DSS or that he set out to act dishonestly or in bad faith. The question of any personal shortcoming requires consideration of the system and circumstances of ERCβs operation at the time of its adoption of the NPP.
The passages clearing Morrison of fault are extraordinary
NACC says Morrison is technically "responsible" as cabinet Minister, but not "personally at fault"
If responsibility exists without consequence...then what does "ministerial accountability" even mean anymore?
The reality is the Canberra bubble was never going to allow their own to face consequences for Robodebt
Itβs exactly this. They are untouchable and theyβve made it that way for a reason
Because they are in the political class. Nothing happens to the political class. Breaking the law is part of the job. Gotta claw back billions from poor people instead of taxing the rich properly. Rich people = political donors. And poor people can't afford to fight. Don't forget access.
Agreed
Yep once again the powerful can harm the poor and get away with it
Exactly
Yep they can do whatever they like they still havenβt implemented the recommendations either
And the two found responsible will not face any charges at all
Two robodebt officials engaged in serious corrupt conduct, Nacc finds, but Scott Morrison cleared www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Accountable jfc π€¦ββοΈ
I didn't expect anything different tbh we seem to lack the ability to hold the rich and powerful to accountability in this country
Meanwhile, Labor have also still failed to implement key recommendations of the Royal Commission, including reinstating the 6-year debt recovery limit, limiting automated decision-making, and better protections for people experiencing hardship from compliance notices.
If it was one of us and not someone who is rich and powerful we would be held accoybtable

So I spent 170 out of one pay to get my yard done. Iβve been cleaning and stressing for the last week for my housing inspection tomorrow. This morning my housing manager called to reschedule on the 19th π€¦π»ββοΈ which means I could of stretched out the payment for my yards and not pushed myself so hard
Thank you
Exactly this
I love this idea
None of them will take us up on the offer because it shows theyβd have to do something then
I invited Amanda Rishworth to meet mine to see what poverty is
